Unfortunately, I don't have nearly as much time to devote to this blog as I'd like. When I do have time, I cannot seem to think of anything interesting to write about...much like today. But in an effort to write SOMETHING, I thought it would be a good time to share some of Shaun's unique language skills.
We are very blessed that Shaun is verbal but to be entirely honest, at this point most of the language he does have is not functional. He has a few new things that serve a purpose and are used correctly to request something, such as drink or apple. He's also recently start labeling things more often, which is an awesome first step but he's still not using those words to communicate with us. I am confident that all of that will come in time! For now, the things he does say keep us laughing endlessly. Below is a list of some cute Shaun saying:
'Bad Hat Harry'- This in Shaun speak is 'House'. I don't think he really likes the show so much as the theme song or the end credits but he's constantly saying it and handing mommy the remote control...and when we say it to him, giggles all around!
'Wow, that's a low price.'- He picked this one up from a Staples commercial. He mostly uses it where most would probably just stick with 'wow'. One day I found him peeing on the carpet and he looked up and exclaimed, ' Wow! That's a low price!' How can you be mad at that?
'Mmm mmm good.'- This is from the Campbell's soup commercials. This serves two uses- one, as a label for jelly beans and two, when something tastes good...not entirely inappropriate at least!
'But first'- This means puzzles. In his therapy, they often use say things like, "You can have (desired object), BUT FIRST do this." This is for all activities, not just the puzzles but for whatever reason he decided that this must be the correct label for a puzzle.
'Donald's' (while holding up 5 fingers)- Donald's without the fingers can mean either McDonald's, or Donald the train. With the fingers, it mean Subway- or more specifically their 5 dollar foot longs! HA!
'Stop Stop Stop'- This is obviously Spiderman, haha! He picked this up from his favorite scene in one of the movies.
'Toby or not toby'- While playing with daddy Shaun was being overly dramatic with his blast offs, motioning with his hands and I commented that it looked like he was doing Shakespeare. Matt jokingly said, "To be or not to be." Shaun, being the Thomas fan he is heard Toby and the rest is history.
I am sure there are more, but he has woken up and needs his mommy. Even if he doesn't always make sense, I love listening to him talk. He brings joy and laughter into my laugh every day and I am very thankful for that!

I'd give everything I have to hear Hunter speak... even if it didn't make much sense. I loved this blog, Randi. Shaun is an incredible little guy, and I just know he lights up your life!
