I'll be honest...the (two) photos we actually have of me at the hospital during and after Shaun's birth are absolutely horrible! Between a long (24+ hours) labor and a crap camera, etc...they are just not great. I'm happy to have them, of course, but when we found out we were expecting baby # 2, I knew I wanted to at least try to have more and better pictures taken during our hospital stay. Part of that for me, means being more prepared...with Shaun, I didn't bring any makeup to the hospital, no special outfits for after the birth (that I recall anyway)...heck, I'm not even sure I remembered to bring my hairbrush. I suppose looking good just was not a priority. But looking back at those pictures, I certainly wish I'd thought ahead and put in more effort! As women, many of us tend to want to look our absolute best for all those important moments in our lives. From our senior proms, graduations and of course, our weddings! Becoming a mother has got to be the most important, life changing day that any of us will ever experience so of course we should be able to look beautiful!
So why when we look back on the pictures of that day are we in those horrible ugly, over-sized hospital gowns!? It was this same line of thought that inspired Lisa of Mod Mum to create these stunning, hand sewn hospital delivery gowns! Now only are they super stylish and absolutely beautiful, but they are also made with the hospital and moms' needs in mind. Unlike typical hospital gowns that are huge and only tie in the back, leaving you feeling exposed, these gowns button all the way down...still allowing access where needed for the doctors, but providing modesty for mom as well. They also have snaps at the breastbone to allow for more discreet (and easy) breastfeeding as well! How wonderful is that!? (And after the birth, makes it great for a nursing gown as well, so you get even more use out of it!)
Lisa was generous enough to send me one of these great gowns to try out for myself. I chose the Navy Chevron Gown with a Red Sash. As gorgeous as this gown was in the photos, I was stunned at how much moreso it was in person. And the quality is just amazing too! The fabric is soft and comfortable, and not sheer as some of those over worn hospital gowns seem to be at times! One of the other great features that I loved was that these are NOT one size fits all. I'm a petite girl, and even at 9 months pregnant those typical hospital gowns tend to be huge on me. The Mod Mum gowns come in sizes XS-XL, based on your prepregnancy dress size. For me, that meant an XS. As you can see in the photos, at just about halfway through my pregnancy, I still have plenty of room to grow, but I'm not drowning in it either!
18.5 weeks, and still lots of room to grow! |
Now that I've told you all about the gown, I have to take a moment to tell you about the wonderful customer service as well! I spoke with Lisa on the phone to make arrangements for this review and she was extremely kind and helpful. Not only that, but the gown was shipped out super quickly. I had it in my hands within a week of making arrangements, even knowing that there was no rush (as we'd initially talked over a month ago!) As a work at home mom herself, she does not just make a product with moms in mind, but runs her business that way as well. She employs two other moms who help with all the sewing, so when you buy from Mod Mum, you truly are supporting MOMS! I absolutely LOVE that.
Buttons all the way down the back...no more worries about being over exposed!! |
Overall, I am seriously in love with this company and the product. I think every mom deserves to look beautiful on this big day, and Mod Mum gowns are just the way to do that! Moms tend to get everything for baby at their shower, but why not treat the mom to be in your life (or yourself!) with something special just for her!?

I love the Baby Sling Wrap Carrier in Sadie. Wouldn't it be lovely to have a sling to take your baby home in the same color fabric as your gown?
