A Sensory Friendly Gift: Chewelry by iPuke {Holiday Gift Guide}

**Product received for review.

When our children are itty bitties, chewing and mouthing absolutely everything is to be expected and socially acceptable. At some point, most children just naturally outgrow this habit. For children with Autism and other sensory issues, that isn't always the case. This was certainly true for my son...toys, clothes, furniture, mommy, windowsills, you name it- he chewed in it. At one point when he was about 4 years old, his chewing was so bad that he'd chewed the fabric off one of our dining room chairs and would be wearing shirts soaked with slobber, and holes chewed in them. Though it has gotten a bit better over time, even now at six years old, he still often has that need to have something in his mouth. At his age, chewing on his clothing or toys or hands is just not considered to be socially appropriate. So we had a few 'chewies' around that house that we could give him if needed- a long green chewy tube and a small T. These were both made for oral sensory needs and were great...but we were constantly misplacing them, and he didn't always have them on hand if we were out and about. We needed something better.

The chewelry necklaces from iPuke were the perfect solution! iPuke was generous enough to send my little man a blue necklace to try out for himself. As soon as it arrived, he was super excited and exclaimed, "Oooh, a chewy necklace!" and got to chewing. The necklaces are made from a silicone chewelry bead, designed for chewing and feature a break away safety clasp. Shaun absolutely loved it. Not only was it in his favorite color, it also provided the oral stimulation he needs...anytime, anywhere in a socially appropriate way! And I'll be honest, when he heard the company name- he thought it was even cooler- being a boy and liking super gross things and all. Mommy loved it because it was cute, but not at all feminine so it could work great for a little girl, or my little man! No more searching high and low for those missing chewies, this can always be found safely around his neck. Honestly, I wish we'd have known about these sooner.

And the best part? At just $4.50, they are extremely affordable. Sensory and therapy tools can be quite expensive so for those like us on a limited budget, this is a huge plus! And they are great quality too! If you have a child with Autism or other sensory issues who craves oral input, I highly recommend buying one! And they would make a fun AND useful stocking stuffer as well!!
