The holidays are approaching quickly, and for many that means holiday parties and gatherings! Personally, I love getting all dressed up in a pretty dress and going all out. But as a breastfeeding mother, finding the perfect party dress can be difficult. Let's be honest, most dresses are not breastfeeding friendly...I think even the most pro public breastfeeding advocates would agree that lifting a whole dress over your head is a little over the top. So that tends to leave v-necks as the only options, and my experience has been that those that work well also tend to be quite revealing. I prefer to dress more modestly, so that's just not a great option for me. I found the perfect solution in Milk Nursingwear's Cocktail Nursing Dress, which they so generously sent me for review.
My initial impression taking it out of the package was that it was extremely soft. As a mom with a new baby, as much as I want to look stylish, comfort is still key. This dress covered both very well. In the photos online, I found it a bit hard to tell rather or not this was a low v-neck or not, and to my very pleasant surprise I found that there is actually a piece of fabric in the center making it extremely modest. It was also just as comfortable on as it had felt. The fit was absolutely perfect and I found it to be quite flattering. However, I will say that I found that I had to wear a slip underneath to avoid unwanted lines. This might not be ideal in covering those post baby imperfections if that's something you're concerned about. I personally found that with the slip it worked out just fine for me though. What I loved most about this dress was the ability to dress it up or down. I wore it for one of my best friend's wedding a few weeks back...with a cute pair or heels and the right jewelry, it made the perfect dress for the event. Change out the shoes and accessories, and I could easily wear this on a trip to the mall as well.
But all the style and perfect fit in the world would make no difference if it wasn't easy to nurse in, right? I'll be honest, I've tried several nursing tops in the past that I found were really no more convenient than a non-nursing top. In fact, some of them even seemed more complicated. This was not at all the case with this dress. The sides of the wrap front simply slide over for convenient and discreet nursing. No hassling to try to get the nursing opening in the right place as I'd seen in some nursingwear- the design was just perfect and worked just as it should. It made nursing extremely easy. I personally prefer to use a cover in public regardless of what I'm wearing, but for those who don't use covers, it does seem like it would make nursing more discreet as well.
Overall, I was extremely thrilled and cannot wait to wear this gorgeous dress throughout the rest of our holiday festivities.
