"I am not a fan of Jesus. And if you want to live out what it means to be a Christian, you shouldn't be a fan of Jesus either." -Kyle Idleman
That sounds like a pretty crazy statement, doesn't it? I mean... isn't being a fan of Jesus a GOOD thing? Jesus is pretty awesome, why shouldn't we be His fans?
But let's think about fandom for just a moment. We're fans of many things- movies, actors, tv shows, music... we go to/watch the shows. We buy the merchandise. We wear the clothes. We admire their work... but we don't model our lives after them.
So what does being a fan of Jesus look like? We go to church. We listen to Christian music. We wear our crosses. We admire the work of Jesus... but do we truly strive to live like Him? That's the big difference between being a fan and being a follower... which would you rather be?
This is just the topic of Kyle Idleman's Not a Fan Daily Devotional:
Featuring all new content building on the mega bestseller Not a Fan, author and pastor Kyle Idleman dives deep into each of his principles from the original book and helps you see how you can live out what it means to be a truly committed and sold-out follower of Jesus.
Seventy-five days of insights, stories, encouragement, and biblical truth and inspiration will bring this life-changing book to an even deeper level for all those who desire to take the next steps in being a true disciple.
Each devotional gives you a scripture to focus on, a story or insight that illustrates one of the Not a Fan principles, and most importantly, a “Do Something About It” section that helps you with simple ways to put the principles in practice immediately.
This immensely practical and helpful devotional is a perfect daily read for any believer, new or old.
I have read a few other books by Kyle Idleman, and I've always been impressed. He really has a fun writing style that really takes biblical ideas and puts them into modern applications that truly make sense to today's reader. While I do enjoy reading the Bible and find beauty in it's words, I'm often unsure of just what these words mean for me and how I should apply them to my own life. Kyle Idleman does this beautifully with a mix of practical ideas and humor too. This devotional is no different.
This easy to follow devotional takes all the ideas discussed in the best selling Not A Fan, but puts them in a daily devotional. If you've read the book, this will be a great addition to your studying and truly help you to dig deeper into that idea. Haven't read the book? Neither have I. Still, I found the devotional worked very well as a stand alone too. Each devotion starts with a scripture, leads into a brief reading and ends with an idea on how to apply these lessons to our daily lives. The challenges are simple, but can truly help to take our relationship with Jesus from that of a fan, to that of a TRUE follower.
So I will ask again... if given the choice to be just a fan- playing the part or a true follower- living the life, which would you rather be? If you chose the latter, this devotional is a great place to start!
