One of the questions I am asked most often about Bible journaling is: What supplies do you use?
The answer to that is a long one... I use a little bit of everything! I started out with the basics- colored pencils and some micron pens. But as I became more comfortable in my journaling, I started adding more supplies like paints, stamps, and ink. One of my favorite journaling supplies lately is embellishments! Stickers, die cuts, etc. that are often used for scrap-booking or paper crafts can be really great additions to Bible journaling- especially for those like myself who are not artists! Each time I go to the craft store, I find myself browsing these fun embellishments and while I see so many that I love, I often find myself going to the same styles, the same designs over and over again. Let's be honest, that can be a little boring! One of the things I love most about Bible journaling is that it is a fun way to get creative and step outside of my comfort zone, but if I was always going to buy the same supplies- how is that going to make me think outside the box?

I was lucky enough to receive January's Capture Kit to try out for myself. The kit was packed full! Take a look:
Inside I found:
+ A roll of phrase washi tape
+ A set of 3 large camera clips
+ A set of felt alphabet die cuts
+ A sheet of dimensional rhinestone stickers
+ A set of colored cork numbers
+ A set of camera wood chips
+ A set of two vellum washi stickers
+ A set of transparency hearts (Lili Niclass for Freckled Fawn)
+ A set of flair badges (RUKristin for Freckled Fawn)
FREE | A doodle scallop pouch
As I said, packed full... and it was all fantastic! As a photography hobbyist, this particular kit was right up my alley and I could not wait to get started creating!
First up, I knew I had to go with the photography theme, so I came up with this idea of 'Focus on Jesus' for Hebrew 12:1-2-
Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.
For this page, I used the felt letters to spell out my message of the page, using a scrapbook safe glue. I also added a camera wood chip to the message as well. I absolutely love these letters, they are thin enough that they don't add too much bulk to my pages, but give a nice vibrant color and are ideal for someone like myself for whom lettering is a struggle. Next, I used the was washi stickers to add in some fun colors and prints too. I loved how these offered different thicknesses and different styles, but coordinated together beautifully too. The finishing touch was the camera paper clip. I love the added pop of fun and color this added, but also love that it can be moved and used wherever I need it to mark pages as I'm working. I loved how this page turned out, and must say it might be one of my favorites so far!
Next up, I knew these hearts would be ideal for a verse about love... which of course, the Bible is full of! I decided to go with 1 Peter 4:8-
Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, since love covers a multitude of sins.
Now, when it comes to Bible journaling, some people think its okay to cover words and use their journaling Bible strictly as an art Bible. Others prefer to have all the words visible. I tend to be of this second opinion for myself, which is why I loved these tranparency hearts! They gave my pages a ton of color, but still allow me to read through them as well! Absolutely perfect for Bible journaling! I loved these so much they I decided to do a simple two page spread using these hearts and the felt letters to simply spell out 'love'. A simple entry, but I loved the results:
I loved the cork numbers included in this kit and knew I wanted to use them somewhere, but it took me a little time to figure out just where they would make sense. My initial thought was 1 Corinthians ('And these 3 remain...') but unfortunately I had already journaled that passage, so it took a little more thought....
After some thought I came up with a fantastic verse (one of my son's favorites) about forgiveness, Matthew 18:22-
"No, not seven times," Jesus replied, "but seventy times seven!
"No, not seven times," Jesus replied, "but seventy times seven!
For my other two projects, I made a point to stick strictly with the items from the kit to really show you just how much you can do with it, but for this final page, I did use some inks and stamps already in my collection to add a little more color to the background and to add a few words. I again used the felt letters (a favorite in this kit!) and scrapbook safe glue. The dimensional stickers were a fun way to frame my message and give a little something extra to this page too. The cork seven was definitely the highlight here though. I love again how it gave more pattern and more texture to my page.
Overall, I have to say these pages have been some of my favorite to create! They are still 100% my style but there were many items included that I might not have picked up myself! I've never used paperclips in my journaling. I've never purchased any embellishments that required glue. But because these were delivered directly to my my mailbox, I was inspired to use my imagination and think outside of the box.
