When I was a kid at the baby-sitters house, there is one movie that we seemed to have watched every single day- Adventures in Babysitting! Now, I honestly don't know that we actually watched it every day or not, but we did watch it often enough that when I look back, it certainly seems to be the case. And honestly, I loved it. Sure, it was actually a bit scary at that age, but still such a fun story.
Sofia Carson (Descendants) and Sabrina Carpenter (Girl Meets World) star in a hilarious, action-packed tale of two sitters inspired by the '80s classic! Sparks fly when free-spirited Lola and prim, proper Jenny learn they're up for the same internship. But that night, after newbie babysitter Lola breaks "Rule #1: NEVER take your eyes off the kids," she's forced to call Jenny - currently on her own gig - to help track down Trey, who has snuck out. Now with all their young charges in tow, these rivals must team up and brave the big city on the wildest, wackiest adventure of their lives!.
Now, maybe despite the excitement, you're also thinking to yourself that the original wasn't exactly Disney friendly. Honestly, I thought the same myself (and when I rewatched the original on Netflix, I realized even more so how inappropriate it actually was and I'd never realized). So, as you can imagine, this one is a lot different and certainly more Disney friendly. For some, this might not be a good thing, but for me, I actually really loved that. After rewatching, I'm not certain I'd feel comfortable as much with my kids watching the original at their ages, BUT the new one has all of the fun and excitement of that, but in a much cleaner package. It's such a fun way to share a little piece of my own childhood with my children too.
Like I said, there are certainly some differences. It's a bit lighter, a bit younger... but the action and the adventure are still right there. In fact, you might see a few scenes that truly are updated versions from the classic! One of the scenes that I always remembered most from the original was the scene where they are on stage singing the blues. Now, there are no blues in this one... but there is a pretty epic performance. This one is in the form of a more modern rap battle between the two baby-sitters. Admittedly, I'm not a rap fan at all, but I have to say this was probably my favorite scene because it was most definitely a clear throwback to that beloved scene! Check it out:
Overall, I really loved this one, and as a DCOM fan, I must say it makes for a pretty great 100th! It premiered on Disney Channel last Friday, so check your TV provider for encore showings. Don't have Disney Channel, or want to watch whenever you want? Adventures in Babysitting is available for purchase TODAY, June 28!!

ReplyDeleteSo much fun!! I wonder if my oldest child would like this or would be nervous watching it. I think she would like the actresses!
ReplyDeleteI have never heard of this movie! I'm definitely curious to checkout the original! (My lo isn't really old enough to appreciate movies yet)
