In our house, Christmas books are a big part of the holidays. We have a large collection of holiday books that I bring out and add to each and every year. I love finding stories that encompass the true meaning of the season with a great story, and a great lesson to be learned.
Today, I'm excited to share with you one of the newest books in out collection, The Stable Cat's Christmas:
One night in Bethlehem, a small, dust-colored cat returns to her stable to find that a Baby has been born in the night. As all the animals tell the cat about the gifts they gave the Christ Child, the cat sadly concludes that she is too little and powerless to give a gift to the King. But when the Baby shivers and the cat leaps into the manger to comfort him, she discovers that she can give the best gift of allherself. This timeless Christmas book celebrates the fact that everyone has a gift they can give the King, no matter their size or stature. Enchanting illustrations and a heartfelt message make this book a Christmas keepsake that can be enjoyed year after year.
I love the Christmas story.
I mean honestly, could there truly be a better story? A king higher than all kings, born with the humblest of beginnings. Even as an adult, this is a story I could read over and over again. That's probably why among our many Christmas books, several take place right in the manger. Some are more exact re-tellings, while some- like The Stable Cat's Christmas- offer a more creative and unique perspective... like that of a little kitten in the manger.
Not only does this story teach a beautiful lesson that we each have something unique to offer God, it also ends much like a folk tale, with the story of how the tabby cat got his stripes. As a child, I remember loving these types of stories so that was a fun little twist.
Aside from all that, my kids loved it. They both love cats anyway, so I'm sure that helped to gain their attention, but it was a sweet little story that kept them coming back for more. A baby and a kitty? For my daughter there could be no better. We have fallen in love with this book in my home, and know we will read it many, many times during the holiday season and in years in come!
