Nearly a year, I was given the chance to review the NKJV The Woman's Study Bible. This was a gorgeous Bible that instantly caught my eye with it's gorgeous design. In fact, at the time, I might have called it the prettiest Bible in my personal collection. I fell in love with not only the design, but the many great features inside. I truly loved everything about this Bible except one thing...The translation.
Now don't get me wrong, there is certainly nothing wrong with NKJV. There certainly is something beautiful and poetic about the language used in this translation. Still, for me personally, it's not one that I understand as well as I would like. It's old-fashioned and not something that I can as easily read and pick up on the meanings of what it is I am reading. And for a study bible, that's a very important thing. So, as much as I did love that Bible, I found I was reaching for others instead.
Needless to say when I learned The Woman's Study Bible was BACK with an NIV translation, I knew that I had to check it out:
The Woman’s Study Bible poignantly reveals the Word of God to women, inviting them to receive God’s truth for balance, hope, and transformation. Special features designed to speak to a woman’s heart appear throughout the Bible text, revealing Scripture-based insights about how godly womanhood grows from a woman’s identity as a Christ-follower and a child of the Kingdom. Now with a beautiful full-color redesign, The Woman’s Study Bible reflects the contributions of over 80 women from a wide variety of ethnic, denominational, educational, and occupational backgrounds. Since the publication of the first edition of The Woman’s Study Bible under the editorial guidance of Dorothy Kelley Patterson and Rhonda Harrington Kelley, this landmark study Bible has sold over 1.5 million copies.

First and foremost, much like the NKJV of this Bible, this is a stunning Bible. It features a beautiful floral design that I for one cannot help but fall in love with. Still, it's what inside that truly makes this a great Bible. It has absolutely everything you need to dig deeper into the word and truly get a greater understanding of what you're reading.
Each book starts with some great background information--- where did the title come from? who wrote this? when was it written? what was the setting? the purpose? who was it written for? All of these and more are answered. It even offers an outline so you know just what it is you'll be reading before you even start.
As you read you will find notations at the bottom that allows you to gain a better understanding of the context in which these verses were written. It offers some historical insight and better explanation of what these phrases and actions meant to that intended audience. In addition it also features some more in depth look at various characters throughout and thoughts on various topics that are relevant to women with scriptural references to read through. There are charts, timelines, family trees, and maps all throughout. All of these great features throughout truly make this a fantastic study bible that I for one am very excited about.
