"Mommy, I have a tummy ache!"
As moms, we've all heard these words a time or two haven't we? And as moms we hate seeing our little ones not feeling well. When serious tummy troubles, fever, vomiting, etc happen, it is always best to have your child seen by a doctor. But for those simple tummy aches, there are a few at home remedies we can try out:
Peppermint. This was always a go to when I was a kid. Peppermint tea is best, but if your little one isn't a tea drinker, a less potent peppermint candy can offer relief too!
Ginger. Ginger is very well know for its amazing tummy aiding properties, so naturally it's a good option for those minor tummy aches. Again, tea is ideal, but ginger ale can be a great option as well.
Baking Soda. Is there anything baking soda CAN'T do? Adding about 1/4 teaspoon to a glass of water can be a great way to ease indigestion.
Burnt Toast. Sounds appealing doesn't it? But much like how hospitals use charcoal to absorb poisons from patients, it is said that the char on the toast can absorb some of those toxins making your little one feel ill. You can add a bit of jelly to make it a little more appetizing.
Apply Heat. Heat can be a great way to alleviate some stomach pain, so have your little one cuddle up to that hot water bottle. Be certain that it is not too hot and there is a barrier on the skin to avoid burns.
The BRAT Diet. Bananas, Rice, Applesauce and Toast. Often when your little one feels sick to their stomach it can be hard to eat, but these foods are bland and easier to digest... and can help get them back on their feet faster.
Apple Cider Vinegar. Another 'cure all' found in most of our pantries already. Mixing a tablespoon with 1 cup of water and a little honey can be a great solution for the icky tummy, if you can stomach it. Some people take this daily as a preventative measure.
These are just a few of the great, natural at home remedies that many have found success with. Of course, in my home, nothing can beat extra love and cuddles too!
Have you tried any of these remedies? Which are your favorites? Any not listed here? I'd love to hear all about it in the comments below.
