Every two minutes, one woman is diagnosed with breast cancer.
That's an astounding number, isn't it? Every 2 minutes.
Here's another one for you: 1 in 8 women.
Chances are most of us have been impacted by breast cancer in one way or another- be it ourselves, a family member or a friend.
Sadly, in my family it is something that I have seen all too much, but none of them as close to me as my mom. A little over 5 years ago, I received the phone call that no daughter wants to receive. A lump had been found and it was cancer. Thankfully, in my mom's case she found it very early during a self check, but unfortunately many are not as lucky.
The good news is that the death rate has decreased since 1989, in part due to better screening and early detection, increased awareness, and continually improving treatment options. There are now more than 3.5 million breast cancer SURVIVORS in the United States alone. This is fantastic, but of the expected 250,000 women to be diagnosed each year, it is estimated that around 40,000 will pass. That number is STILL too high. Improvements and funds for breast cancer research are essential to preventing deaths, finding a cure and eradicating the disease for good.
This is why Carpet One Floor & Home has once again partnered together with Breast Cancer Research Foundation for their Welcome-A-Cure initiative.
So, who are Carpet One and BCRF?
The Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF) advances the world's most promising research to eradicate breast cancer in our lifetime. Founded by Evelyn H. Lauder in 1993, BCRF has raised more than $500 million to fuel discoveries in tumor biology, genetics, prevention, treatment, survivorship and metastasis. This year, we invested $45 million in the work of more than 200 researchers at leading medical institutions across six continents. By spending 91 cents of every dollar on research and public awareness, BCRF remains one of the nation's most fiscally responsible charities. We are the only breast cancer organization with an "A+" from CharityWatch, and have been awarded a 4-star rating from Charity Navigator 12 times since 2002. Join us at www.bcrfcure.org.
Each year as part of this initiative, Carpet One puts out a special selection of pink ribbon welcome mats. I have had the opportunity to check out these mats for the last few years, and I have to tell you, the styles keep getting better and better! This year, designers at Carpet One have created 20 fantastic mats to fit whatever your style might be- Farmhouse, Modern, Classic or Bohemian. Every mat is 2' x 3' with a rubber backer. They are available at participating Carpet One Floor & Home stores for just $29.99, with 25% of the proceeds going to fund BCRF's research program.
