What are you favorite non-toy gifts to give?
In our home, that answer is enthusiastically- BOOKS! We love books around here! They make the perfect gift because they're entertaining, educational AND don't take up nearly the same amount of room as your typical toys (though my collapsing bookshelves might disagree on that point).
My kids love any and all books, but what about those kids who don't? The ones that need a little more encouragement to be captured by the magic of reading? This is where a great interactive book comes in! They have a fun way of bringing books to life, and making reading more appealing even to those who aren't big readers.
Today, I am excited to share 4 fantastic new interactive books perfect for everyone in the family, young and old:
We ALL know 'The Monster At The End of This Book', right? It's a classic. I personally remember reading it when I was a child, and then again reading it with my own kids. If you have a child who already loves the original, they are going to go even more crazy for this one. Not only do we see that same pattern of silliness that we all remember and love... but its an interactive version. There are sliders, things to pull, flaps to lift... even elements that pop up giving us a fun 3D look that kids love. This allows kids not JUST to read the story, but to truly be involved in it as well. My daughter could not get enough!
Come along with Grover and Elmo in this fun, interactive refresh of the classic storybook: Sesame Street: Another Monster at the End of This Book: An Interactive Adventure (Studio Fun International; ISBN: 978-0794441746; Hardcover $14.99; Ages 3-5)!In this interactive version of the classic Sesame Street story, Grover tries everything to keep Elmo from turning another page and reaching the monster at the end of the book. With lift-the-flaps, sliders, and pop-up elements that kids will delight in, Another Monster is sure to be a new story time favorite!2018 National Parenting Product Awards Winner. Tom Brannon’s illustrations are based on original artwork by Mike Smollin.
Thankfully it's very well made as well... because with all that lifting and turning... well, let's just say lasting quality is a must! I can certainly see why this book has won parenting awards, it's a must see perfect for toddlers and preschoolers.
Did your little ones enjoy the new Nutcracker movie? If so, they are going to absolutely love this. Actually, to be 100% honest, my daughter actually prefers the book over the movie! And while I loved the movie myself, I truly can't blame her, it's fabulous. While we see the ballerina on each page, the scenery around her changes as she travels through the realms. I always loved pop up books as a child, and I must admit I still do today. As a child there was something almost magical about the experience- something I certainly see in my daughter's eyes as she looks through it too. As an adult, I cannot help but admire the design elements that must go into creating something like this. It truly is a work of art, and one that we are certainly loving!
Disney The Nutcracker and the Four Realms: A Center Stage Pop-Up Book (Studio Fun International; ISBN: 978-0794442033; Hardcover $12.99; Ages 6-8) is a new companion title timed to the release of the major motion picture! The Ballerina of the Realms dances on every page of this magical book! From Disney's all-new live action film The Nutcracker and the Four Realms, follow the elegant Ballerina of the Realms as she dances center stage in this artistic pop-up book, celebrating each of the unique and picturesque Four Realms. This beautiful format is a perfect holiday gift for fans of this classic tale, full of colorful characters and no shortage of surprises.
Now, I'll be honest I am NOT a Star Wars fan... but I live with three of them. Needless to say this was a huge hit among them--- ages 5 to 35! They all loved it. It truly was the perfect activity for the kids to work on with their dad. In the end, they were left with a fun model to display. It's very sturdy, so even with my destrctive kids, I can see it lasting awhile! The fun isn't just in the putting together of the model though. It is also full of fun puzzles that the Star Wars fan is sure to enjoy. I cannot help but think this is going to be a must have as winter goes on and keeps us inside!
Read about and build the fastest ship in the galaxy with this out-of-this-world kit: Star Wars Build Your Own Millennium Falcon (Studio Fun International; ISBN: 978-0794442187; $10.99; Ages 6-8).Join Han and Chewbacca aboard the fastest bucket of bolts in the galaxy. Packed with amazing puzzles and a Millennium Falcon of your own to build, there are hours of Star Wars fun to be had. Work out complete mazes, code words, and puzzles in the uniquely illustrated, full-color activity book. Then press out the pieces to create your very own mini Millennium Falcon model, perfect for re-creating famous scenes from the Star Wars saga. The model is made from a sturdy foam core. Unsure what to get the Star Wars fan on your list? This book and model set is going to be a great way to go!
I Am a Wonder Woman by Ellen Bailey (Portable Press; ISBN: 978-1684125487; Paperback $14.99; Ages 9-11; 128 pages) is an entertaining and inspirational look at some of the most influential women in history, from ancient times to the modern day, including lesser known visionaries such as Annie Londonderry and Britta Tott, to household names like the Brontës, Cleopatra, Hellen Keller, J.K. Rowling, and more. Each page is filled with amazing stories about the women who have shaped the world and inspired others to follow in their footsteps. Readers can step into the lives of these pioneers by completing unique activities and answering thought-provoking questions for themselves. Quirky artwork throughout helps bring each woman’s story to life.
Preteen girls can be a tough group to shop for... but this book can certainly be a welcome addition. It takes a great look at some amazing women throughout history. I love that it takes a look at both those we know and love well--- to those who might not be as well known too. What a great way to show girls that they too can make a difference. It's not all reading either...kids can dive in deeper and think outside the box with the fun questions found throughout or participating in fun activities. I also loved the unique style throughout that very much appeal to that age group.
This is very much a book that I would have enjoyed when I was a young girl. And while my daughter is still a bit young for it, it's one she will certainly enjoy too!
No matter their age or their interest, these books truly do offer a little something for everyone! They bring reading to life in a way that your family is sure to love. All are available to purchase at your favorite book retailers.
