Carly Smith came by her trust issues honestly. A victim of sex trafficking, she's been at the mercy of merciless men, ignored by law enforcement officers who should have helped her, and seemingly rejected by her family. She can't even trust herself to do the right thing. Though she escaped her captors and is working hard on building a new life, the past continues to haunt her when she discovers that the man she couldn't bring herself to report to police for fear of reliving her captivity is still out there, luring vulnerable girls under the guise of being a modeling agent.
When her own niece is kidnapped, Carly must overcome her fears and come forward with the information she has before it's too late. When that proves to be not enough, she'll have to go after the perpetrators herself.

Talk about a 'can't put it down, stay up all night, have to know what happens next' read! Whew, this one was all that and more! From the beginning we are drawn into the horrible tragedies that have occurred in the life of the character we'll best come to know as Carly Smith, kidnapped into trafficking at the age of 17. With each twist and turn, I found myself wanting to get to the end... no because I was ready for it to end by any means, but because I simply could not wait to see what would happen next. There was always something else to keep you on the edge of your seat!
Now, I'll admit I read a LOT of books in this genre, so I did figure out pretty well all of the whodunnits before they were actually revealed in the story. I don't believe that this is due to any predictability on part of the writer, just merely again because when you read many books like this, you start to see patterns and pick up on those subtle clues throughout. Even at that, there were still many questions to be answered and just excitement in seeing how it would all play out in the end. And it did not disappoint in the slightest! I couldn't get enough.
This was the first of the 'Memphis Cold Case' novels I had read, it was a stand alone story not requiring having read the previous three. If any of the characters were introduced in previous novels, there was no indication given and nothing lost on this story anyway. That being said, the fantastic story in this novel certainly has me wanting to go back and read more!
Due to the subject nature (human trafficking), this certainly is not a lighthearted read, but I think it is a very important subject and one that I was glad to see put in the spotlight in this story. I also loved that it WAS written from a Christian perspective, and will perhaps encourage Christians to find organizations like those seen in the story to support. This is such an important mission that sadly occurs right here in our own backyards and the more aware we are, the better! This is definitely a book I would highly recommend!
