**Gift card and screener received for consideration of this review. All thoughts are 100% my own.

Based on John Bunyan’s epic masterpiece, THE PILGRIM’S PROGRESS is one of the most popular books of all time, and one of the most important stories of our faith! Second to the Bible in total copies and translations, the story was written by John Bunyan a pastor, imprisoned for sharing his faith.

This powerful allegory helps families understand the spiritual journey is the most important journey in life, as well as the importance of sticking to the path, even when the journey gets difficult.

Who doesn't love a good adventure story? I know I do, as does my family. Is it any surprise that some of the most loved books and movies in history are well... adventures? As I watched this movie, I could certainly see why 'The Pilgrim's Progress' is among those most popular books of all time. It truly is an epic story and one that I think every Christian can enjoy. After all, it's about us- each of us- and our walk in faith.

It's so often called a spiritual journey. Like all those famous adventures that we know and love, it is filled with bumps in the road and falls from the path. We try to take short cuts and look for the easy way around instead of staying on the path that we know leads the way. While our journeys may look very different, they are all very similar in that way. We try to teach our kids what it means to be a Christian, but that journey... well, it's a hard one to really put into words, isn't it?

This movie is an allegory for that spiritual journey that takes us along with our main character, appropriately named Christian, as he embarks on an actual physical journey from the City of Destruction to the Celestial City. Along the way the enemies do everything they can to keep him distracted and steer him off the path. Like Christian, all the names in the story are quite appropriately named- Castle of Despair, Vanity Fair, Legality, etc. These might sound like pretty weighty topics to be seen in a children's movie and while that may be true, it truly is told in a way that will help children to better understand what it means to be a Christian. They might not understand all of the references, but it certainly gives them a foundation and as parents gives us a great way to start a discussion. Now, I will say there are a few scenes where we see some demonic dragon like creatures. While they weren't SUPER scary, I could see how it might get a bit intense for smaller children- especially seen larger than life at the theater so that is certainly something to be mindful of. Still, I think it was a great movie that all Christian young and old can enjoy!

The Pilgrim's Progress will be available to watch in theaters for TWO days only, April 18th and 20th- just in time for the Easter holiday.
