Parents know that their children need their prayers. But sometimes, they aren't sure where to start. For moms and dads who long to lift their kids up in prayer, Powerful Prayers for Your Daughter and Powerful Prayers for Your Son offer hope, encouragement, and practical help.
Rob and Joanna Teigen assure parents that just because they don't always understand their son or daughter, that doesn't mean that God doesn't. Collecting specific prayers parents can use, along with stories from other parents about how God has answered their prayers, Rob and Joanna give readers a strong foundation to build a lifelong habit of praying for their kids. They also explain what boys and girls need to learn as they grow up, including character, courage, modesty, self-control, forgiveness, and more, so parents can pray for every part of their kids' lives.
Rob Teigen was a publishing professional for more than twenty years and is the author of the bestselling Laugh-Out-Loud Jokes for Kids series (under the pseudonym Rob Elliott). He and his wife, Joanna Teigen, have celebrated twenty-five years of marriage and have five kids who bring adventure to their lives in West Michigan. Together they create resources to encourage couples and families, including 88 Great Daddy-Daughter Dates. Learn more at www.growinghometogether.com.
Typically when I am reviewing books- even those that are similar or among the same series- I try to truly give them both individual thoughts and reviews about what sets each one apart. For this review however, I'm doing things a little bit differently and combining my thoughts on both books- 'Powerful Prayers for Your Son' and 'Powerful Prayers for Your Daughter' into one review. Why? These books are essentially very much the same, just one for boys and one for girls! As such, everything I like about one is very much the same in the other.
I once heard it said that one of the best things we can do for our children is to pray for them, and I loved that sentiment. Still, sometimes knowing specifically what to pray is a struggle. This is why I was drawn to these particular books. Now, these are not the first 'praying for your children' books that I have read throughout my years as a mom but most of them focused more on children in general. There's certainly nothing wrong with that, but let's be honest raising sons and raising daughters can be quite different. Their needs and their struggles can be very different, and I think therefor there are different ways we can pray for them individually. This book offers just those prayers- 77 for sons and 88 for daughters. We can find them easily in the index and flip just to those prayers we need when we need them. With so many prayers, they truly do cover a wide range of topics such as self-esteem, doing the right thing, dating, purity and so much more. These topics are covered in both books, but in a way that is most suitable for how that particular gender might experience these issues. Each prayer starts with a few Bible verses and very much biblical based. Mixed in with the prayers there are also prayer stories that I have so enjoyed reading. Sometimes in the midst of our own struggles, it can be hard to see God at work and these stories can be a great reminder that He is working, even if we don't see it yet.
While I have not read each of these prayers yet, I am loving those that I have read so far and know that these books are ones that I will find myself turning to time and time again. They are definitely ones I would recommend for all parents to check out!

This is a book I really want to give my sister. She has kids, and she is spiritual.
