Welcome to the string, a game of impossible decisions and deadly consequences. Let's go over the ground rules.
Rule #1: Participation is mandatory.
Rule #2: If anyone refuses to play, all threats will come to pass.
Game on.
Get ready for a deadly social experiment as a sociopath known as The Conductor delivers disturbing threats and twisted moral dilemmas to unsuspecting students and staff.
As a powerful instinct for self-preservation sweeps through the campus, one man has a grave decision to make. Will university cop Markus Haas play the game to protect those he loves? Or will he break the string and incite massive chaos--and even death?
In the great suspense tradition of Ted Dekker and Steven James, Caleb Breakey's explosive debut novel will have you turning pages into the night.
Caleb Breakey is the CEO of Speak It To Book, the premier ghostwriting agency for influencers, thought leaders, and industry celebrities. He is an ECPA Award finalist and a winner of the prestigious Genesis Contest for fiction writers, and he loves exploring truth through story. He writes in the beautiful Pacific Northwest and enjoys visits from a mischievous mini husky and a smiley Shiba Inu.
Caleb Breakey has come out with a BANG in this debut novel. I was quite shocked to discover this was a debut, as the writing seemed very much like that of a seasoned pro. With the intricate story line, I would say that is quite a feat.
This book will have you at the edge of your seat from the very first pages right through until the end. You'll find yourself wondering who the conductor could possibly be, how far does the string go and will they catch him in the end? I couldn't wait to find out.
I read a lot of Christian suspense, but I have to say that this one is quite different for a few reasons. First and foremost, I do feel as though it is darker and perhaps even scarier. I would really put it more into the category of thriller even. There is a lot of violence, and we're dealing with a true psychopath rather than your every day run of the mill suspense novel killer. To be honest, to me this reads more like a secular novel. There is no language or otherwise inappropriate content, but there is little Christian content either. There is some talk about faith, so it is certainly there...just not in the forefront as it is in others in this particular genre. Had it not been from Revell (a Christian publisher), I likely would not have thought of it as such. So, if you're looking for something a little more faith based, this might be it. But if you love a good thriller, without language and explicit scenes, this one is certainly that!
Overall, this was an action packed thrill read that I would definitely recommend to anyone who enjoys a little scare! I look forward to seeing more from this new author!
