Hi Theresa! Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions
and giving my readers the chance to get to know you and your new book-
Accidental Target a little bit better!
Let’s talk writing! When did you first discover your love of writing?
Let’s talk writing! When did you first discover your love of writing?
I was in the sixth grade when one of my teachers wanted me to try
out for the UIL writing competition. She would give me a topic and send me to
the library with a few other kids. I would write until she came to get us. I
think that was when I first realized how much I enjoyed it.
What drew you to Christian suspense?
What drew you to Christian suspense?
Suspense is my favorite genre to read so for me it was what drew
me to writing it. One of the first Christian fiction novels I read was a
Steeple Hill romance by Debbie Macomber. I fell in love with Christian fiction.
Since I loved suspense, I started reading the Love Inspired Suspense line and
knew I wanted to someday write one.
What type of research goes into creating this type of story?
Oh my…tons! If it’s one thing I am a stickler for it is
authenticity. I have several law enforcement officers I can text at a moment’s
notice to check my facts. I also do a lot of online research, read books, watch
documentaries, you name it. I also find YouTube to be a huge resource.
Sometimes, I think I could spend more time researching than actually writing!
In addition to being an author, you are also a mom and an elementary teacher… how do you find the time to do it all? What does your writing routine look like?
In addition to being an author, you are also a mom and an elementary teacher… how do you find the time to do it all? What does your writing routine look like?
Well, I wish I had some magic schedule I could share with
everyone, but it doesn’t work like that for me. I also have an autoimmune
disease (MCTD) that really sucks my energy when it flares up. Mostly, I write
on the weekends but if I have had an easy day at work and I don’t have to bring
home papers to grade I can get a little writing time in after dinner. It’s a
tough schedule but I tend to do better if I have a deadline. They tend to make
me focus.
Can you tell us a little bit about Accidental Target?
I
actually sold this book during the Great Love Inspired Author Search contest.
It’s about a woman who is following her faith to keep her life on track, but
everything gets turned upside down when a truck runs her off the road. She goes
to help, only to find that she’s just crossed paths with a killer. The only
person who can help her is the police sergeant who lost his own faith when his
family was tragically killed. The message is about healing, forgiveness, and
trust. Even if the reader can’t identify with the characters’ problems, we’ve
all been in a position where we’ve needed our faith to find those three things.
What do you hope readers will take away from the book?
What do you hope readers will take away from the book?
That nothing in life is too big for God to
handle. He never leaves us. Even when we feel we can’t hear His voice, He’s
always there.
Thank you again for taking the time to answer these questions. Before you go, are there any other projects you are currently working on that you can share?
Sure! I
have a couple of projects I’m working on right now. One that I hope to finish
soon is about a female detective who finds herself the target of a serial
killer. The Texas Ranger assigned to the case is the one man from her past that
hurt her the most. She has a lot of trust issues to overcome.
