This year, many of us have found ourselves spending more time at home. A lot more time. In that time, did you find yourself noticing the things that needed to be done to your house--- home improvement projects, long past due deep cleaning, and yes, even redecorating. This year has certainly been a great time to get things done... and to remind us that our homes should be a place that we love and that reflects us. An easy and effective way to do so? Changing up the walls!
Here are a few great options to liven up your walls and make your house feel more like home:
Get To Painting
It is truly astounding what a little bit of paint can do to make your house feel more like a home. As renters, we don't do a lot of painting (as we'd just have to paint it back again when we leave), but having some leftover paint from a different project... I decided to repaint our bathroom anyway. After all, our bathroom is a very small space with tiles on half the walls, so I knew it wouldn't be TOO much work to repaint later. Oh, what a difference it made! It truly made it feel all that much more like home and has become a favorite room in my house.
Add a Piece of Art
Adding a piece of art to your wall is a great way to show off your personal style. Whether it's traditional or fun and unique, there are many options that allow each of us to choose what is right for us and our home.
Wallpaper It
When you think of wallpaper, what do you think? For many, we probably go to the ugly, cheesy wallpaper that our grandparents might have decorated with, right? The truth is though, not all wallpaper is created equally. They now make a large variety of gorgeous wallpapers that can be modern and stylish too. Personally, I love the idea of having just an accent wall to bring in a pop of pattern without overwhelming a room. This is one decor idea that gets a bad rep, but can be fantastic if done correctly.
Keep It Personal
One way to really make a house feel like a home is to make it personal to your family. Family photos can be a fantastic way to do just that. If the home is to be a reflection of your family, it just makes sense, right?
Recently, I was given the opportunity to partner with Photowall and give my own walls a little upgrade.
What is Photowall?

Whether you're looking for a fabulous wallpaper, or a high quality way to display that cute photo of your kids and/or pets, they have a wide variety of styles to choose from. Personally, there is nothing I love more than showing off my family so I opted to go with a personalized canvas photo print. I knew that I wanted this to go over my couch, and that I needed it to be large to fill the otherwise empty space on this wall. The 35.43 x 27.56 inch size seemed perfect. I wanted this to be a focus piece after all! I easily uploaded my picture and was able to see and adjust where the photo would cut off as necessary. One helpful hint to remember is to use the highest size and quality image you possibly can especially when going for a larger print like I did. Phone photos might be okay for smaller prints, but may turn out grainier when enlarged depending on the specifications.
After placing my order, it took less than a week for it to arrive. I have ordered other custom prints and photos before, but this seemed to be the quickest to arrive. My canvas arrived rolled carefully with everything I needed to assemble the canvas frame on my own. I must admit that I was a little intimidated at the prospect of framing it myself, but it was actually rather simple. The canvas and wood for frame are already premeasured, cut and have adhesive applied and the instructions were detailed and easy to follow. I would say all in all, it took me maybe 30 minutes to assemble once I got started. It was a nice feeling of accomplishment knowing that I'd done it on my own too, I must admit. It also came with with a mounting hanger to hang it on the wall too.
After being in our house for over a year now and looking all over for the perfect piece to go over this couch, this truly was what the room was missing. I love how it looks, and the quality is fantastic too!
Not only is this great for your own walls, but they make a great gift too. What grandparent doesn't love showing off photos of their grandbabies!?
