Welcome to the Blog + Review Tour & Giveaway for One Way Home by Melanie Campbell, hosted by JustRead Publicity Tours!
One Way Home is the second book in Melanie Campbell's Whispers of Grace series. While I think reading the first book will certainly help readers understand the relationship between mother and daughter much better, this could certainly be read as a stand alone as well. In One Way Home, we get an insight into Sharon's (Cassie's mother) point of view. As we know from the previous book, Sharon is a recovering alcoholic. This story follows her as she struggles with that addiction, and searches for answers about her past and her family.
In my review for One Woman Falling (book one), I said that it was not an easy or particularly enjoyable book to read--- not because of the writing, not because of the story, but simply because of the subject matter of abuse. The same can be said for this book as it takes on another difficult subject with addiction. But like the previous book, this is another very important read. Addiction and alcoholism are big issues in our world today, and some that even Christians struggle with. I felt like it was covered very well in this book, giving those of us who don't have any experience a better look at what the struggle really looks like. I think so often we tend to think that addiction that is something easily controlled, which makes it easier to empathize with those struggling... books like this told from a Christian perspective in such a raw- not always easy- way are so very important for this reason.
Overall, this was a very good story about relationships, forgiveness and grace... and one that I would certainly recommend checking out.
