Hi Kyle! Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions and
giving my readers the chance to get to know you and your new book- A
Promise in Provence a little bit better! I like to start these
interviews the same way with something fun to break the ice: can you share 5
random facts about yourself that we will NOT find in your bio?
Sure! I’m happy to connect with you and
your readers! Here are five things that aren’t in my bio. One: I was a Navy kid
so lived in five places before the age of eight. Two: The biggest part of my
life was spent in the Philadelphia area. Three: Even though I lived in France,
I’m in love with about all of Europe, so that comes up in my writing. Four: I’m
currently learning/dabbling in Italian, pottery, and photography. Five: I’m a
cat-lover, though I’ve been cat-less for 2 years.
Let’s talk writing! When did you first discover that you had a passion and
talent for writing?
At
the age of 10! I even knew what my pen-name would be at that age. Hunter is my
middle name (so it’s legit!) I wrote my first book when I was eleven, a story
of a frog and a turtle who were best friends. Over the years, I stopped and
started writing, but now have been writing fiction for 11 years.
A Promise in Provence takes place in Provence, France. France is a
common setting in some of your stories and you have lived there yourself… what
is your favorite part about France?
I
lived in France for so long it feels like my second home. I love the culture,
the architecture, almost everything about it. It has always had a special place
in my heart and I’d like to visit annually for the rest of my life!
Have you done much traveling outside of France and the US? What are some of
your other favorites or where would you most love to visit?
Two of my books have ties with Italy.
That has to be my second favorite, after France. While I lived in France, I was
able to visit most countries in western Europe and a few in eastern Europe. I
still have quite a few yet to visit, though.
Can you tell us a little bit about A
Promise in Provence?
This book has to be my favorite so far. Lauren’s story is poignant and deep as
she struggles to piece together her feelings for two different men. One of
these relationships leads her to Provence. The other man follows her there. During
her time there, she meets and is able to help a refugee boy. I tried to paint
the feeling and culture of Provence into both books in the Provence series.
What do you hope readers will take away from the book?
I don’t want to say too much specifically,
but I always want a redemptive message of hope, of growth, and of God’s
faithfulness as these are woven through the story and the conflicts the
characters face. The refugee boy’s story is woven in with Lauren’s in touching
and thought-provoking ways.
This is the second book in the series… will readers who have not yet read book
one need to catch up or can this be enjoyed as a standalone?
I always try to write in such a way that
each book can be enjoyed as a standalone. Readers of both books will see the
whole scope of the story, but each book is different and has different
takeaways.
Thank you again for taking the time to answer these questions. Before you go,
are there any other projects you are currently working on that you can share?
Yes, I recently finished the second book
in a series, the Second Chance Series. This is a 4-book series that followed
four middle-aged women, formerly college friends, who re-establish their
friendship years later. The first is Marissa Rewritten, a novella. This is followed
by my most recent book, Julia Redesigned, which takes place in Florence, Italy.
Two more books will come in 2021 to complete the series.
