"Every once in awhile, somebody is just a week away from an experience
that changed everything for them."
One week. It
doesn't sound like much, but if last year taught us anything, it's that things
can change very quickly in just one week.
One decision. One
experience. One week. That truly is all that it takes for your world to
completely change. That is why I so loved this quote from the new Netflix
movie 'A Week Away'.
Here's a little bit about the movie:
A Week Away is Netflix’s first musical film of its kind, releasing March
26th Troubled teen Will Hawkins (Kevin Quinn) has a choice to make - go to
juvenile detention or attend a Christian summer camp. While at camp, and
with the help of his music, new friends and love interest (Bailee Madison),
he learns the healing powers of kindness, forgiveness, and faith can be
found in the most unlikely of places.
When I saw this trailer for the very first time, I couldn't help
but to think back on my own Christian summer camp experience... an experience
that showed me just how true this quote could be. For me- like some of the
characters in this musical- it may have lasted only a week each summer, but it
shaped the course of my life tremendously. At 33 years old, I still look back
on those summers as some of the greatest moments in my life.
For
me being raised in a church, there was never a time when I didn't believe that
the existence of God was real. I was the good Christian girl who never got
into in trouble and always followed the rules... When a friend invited me to
attend a local Christian camp that her grandma's church had offered to pay for
us to attend, it seemed like a no-brainer (you know, aside for the lack of an
adventurous bone in my body anyway). I didn't realize just what an impact it
would have on my relationship with God. It was there that I first heard
contemporary worship music (a far cry from the conservative hymns I'd grown up
with in my country church) and learned what it meant to wholeheartedly and
unapologetically live out my faith.
Many in attendance were
like myself those who'd grown up in the church, whereas others still were much
like Will-- church camp wasn't really their scene. And yet, we saw changes in
each of us summer after summer. It was a place that allowed me and so many
others to experience a range of emotions from laughter and fun to true
spiritual change. In just ONE WEEK.
As Netflix's first
Christian original, I loved this idea of a movie depicting that experience in
some way. While I intend to share my full review about the film itself very
soon, for now I encourage you all to check out the trailer for 'A WEEK AWAY'
below and set a reminder to check out this unique musical on Netflix when it
premiers.
'A WEEK AWAY' is coming to Netflix this Friday, March
26th.
