Many people will struggle with various health issues as they grow
older, such as aching joints, sleepless nights, and a loss of muscle mass. Yet,
there are actions you can take to slow down the aging process and feel younger
than your years.
If you don’t want to feel tired and achy before or during your golden
years, you must start taking good care of your health. Here’s how you can
combat aging in five easy ways.
1. Move Your Body
Avoiding exercise can increase your risk of various health issues as
you grow older, such as diabetes, heart disease, obesity, or cancer. If you
want to improve your likelihood of remaining in good health throughout the
decades, you must incorporate exercise into your routine.
If the thought of hitting the gym fills you with dread, look for a
workout that will motivate you to get moving each day. For example, you could
transform your health and fitness levels with yoga, Pilates, or HIIT training.
You can even perform the above exercises in the comfort of your home, and you
will only need to buy comfortable clothing and a thick yoga mat for
support.
2. Care for Your Oral Health
Poor oral health can lead to health issues as you grow older. For
instance, it can increase your risk of:
· Dementia
· Cardiovascular disease
· Cancer
· Respiratory issues
Prevent the development of various medical conditions by caring for
your teeth, gums, and tongue. For example, you must brush your teeth twice daily,
floss at least once per day, and attend a dental check-up every six months.
3. Eat Anti-Inflammatory Foods
Chronic inflammation in the body can lead to unwanted health issues
that are often associated with aging, such as arthritis, Alzheimer’s disease, and
Parkinson’s disease. While it isn’t always possible to avoid these conditions,
some foods can lower inflammation in the body and protect your health.
Slow down aging and prevent or ease chronic conditions by adding the
following foods into your diet:
· Sweet potatoes
· Blueberries
· Eggplant
· Fatty fish, such as mackerel, salmon, and tuna
· Green leafy vegetables
· Olive oil
· Tomatoes
4. Treat Yourself to Greek Yoghurt
Many people don’t consume enough calcium, which can cause the body to
take it from their bones. As a result, you might struggle with bone strength as
you age, and you could even develop osteoporosis.
If you are 19 years old or older, The Institute of Medicine recommends
you consume at least 1,000mg of calcium each day. Greek yogurt is one of the
best sources of calcium you can eat, as it contains 415mg of calcium, which is
nearly half your recommended daily amount.
5. Keep Your Brain Active
If you keep your brain active throughout the decades, you are less
likely to struggle with mental decline as you grow older. For this reason, you
must look for ways to stimulate your brain to prevent cognitive decline, such as reading, writing, playing a
game, or completing puzzles.
