A healthy family is a happy one. Getting everyone
into shape is no easy task, though, especially if you are used to screens,
sweet snacks, and lazy weekends. Every family has the ability to pursue
fitness, though – you just need to know how to do it! If you’re ready to push
yourself and your family a little harder, here’s how to get everyone into
shape.
Determine Your Goals
First of all, you need to know what your goals are
so you can make a plan. If your family is on the heavier side, that might
involve losing a little weight. If your family spends too much time sitting
down inside, the goal might simply be to get out more. Whatever you are aiming
for, defining exactly what your goals are will help you reach that point.
Sign Up for Sport Clubs
Have a look around at sports clubs in your
community and sign your kids up for one. It will give them an extra few hours
of exercise each week, without them even thinking about it! Exercise doesn’t
have to be focused on fitness results, after all.
Be careful with injuries here. Kids who take part
in sports are more likely to injure themselves. If you or your children suffer
an injury at any point, make sure you use ATL Physio to get back on your feet as soon as possible.
Go on Family Walks
Another great way to exercise is going on family walks. Even a long walk
just once a week is enough to help everyone get into shape, so look around for
exciting trails to explore as a family. Not only will doing so get you moving,
but it will also give you a chance to bond as a family.
Create Healthy Meal Plans
Eating well as a family can be a challenging task.
After all, you have multiple mouths to feed – some of which might be picky! The
easiest way to eat a balanced diet is to create a healthy meal plan at the very
beginning of the week. By knowing what you will eat in advance, it lessens the
chances of you picking up microwave meals or ordering takeout. Get used to batch
cooking, too, as it will mean you have an easy but healthy meal even on the
busier days.
Stock Up on Healthy Snacks
Snacks are a big contributor to obesity,
especially in family homes. To make sure your family doesn’t fill up on
cookies, sweets, and chips every day, stock your cupboards with healthier alternatives. Carrot
sticks, bananas, berries, unsalted nuts, and yogurt are all good options.
Encourage Outdoor Hobbies
With so many kids spending their time staring at
screens, a lack of exercise has become a real problem. To help your family move
around more and get into shape, be sure to encourage outdoor
hobbies – you could even pursue one as a family! There
are so many fun hobbies to choose from, including surfing, rock climbing,
nature walking, and much, much more.
Setting healthy habits as a family is important,
not just for your health now, but for your health in the future, too.
