Whether I am watching movies on my own or with my family, I like watching something that makes me feel good. There is so much bad news in the world that I find I don't want entertainment that is full of violence and the like as well. I want hope. I want humor. I want faith and a good message.
That is just what I got with the new faith-based family comedy from the Skit Guys- Family Camp.
About the Movie:
When their pastor encourages the congregation to sign-up for a week away at family camp, Grace (Leigh-Allyn Baker) believes she’s found the perfect cure for her imperfect clan—even if they’d all rather be anywhere but at rustic Camp Katokwah. The first feature film from The Skit Guys—Tommy Woodard and Eddie James—FAMILY CAMP is a laugh-outloud comedy that is sure to touch the hearts and tickle the funny bones of every family member from eight to eighty.
My kids and I all loved Good Luck Charlie, so when I saw that Leigh-Allyn Baker was one of the stars in this movie, I knew we had to check it out. She was absolutely fantastic in this role, and it was definitely nice to see her in another role (she really is so good at comedy). The rest of the cast includes The Skit Guys—Tommy Woodard and Eddie James—along with Gigi Orsillo, Robert Amaya (“Courageous”), Cece Kelly, Mark Christopher Lawrence, and social media sensation / comedian Heather Land. If you're not already familiar with them, The Skit Guys have been creating mini-movies for churches and youth groups for years, and perform live at events too.
As I was watching an advanced screener of the movie, I found myself mentally comparing it to another movie that I absolutely love: RV. It similarly featured an imperfect family with a workaholic dad who find themselves on a vacation adventure (in this case a family Christian camp). Likewise, there is also another family that seems to be the perfect family. There's a lot of chaos, a lot of humor but ultimately a really good message about family. But Family Camp also brings in a perfect blend of faith too. I also love that there's a reminder there that things aren't always quite as they seem and that even the "perfect Christian family" so often has their own issues too. As a mom, I loved the positive messages, and my daughter enjoyed it just as much as I did.
FAMILY CAMP is opening in theaters May 13. Tickets are on sale now at https://familycampmovie.com/tickets/
We don't often see these wholesome, Christian family movies in theaters, but by seeing it opening weekend (May 13-15), you are letting Hollywood know that you and your family want more movies like this! I know my family certainly does!
