The decisions we as parents make about our child's education are important ones... and some that many of us struggle with. We want to do what is best for our children...but how do we know what the best is?
With schools shutting down in 2020, many parents who might not have otherwise considered it have found themselves looking into homeschooling. As someone who was homeschooled for a few years myself, I very much was aware of the benefits of homeschooling. I loved that I could work at my pace and could often have my work for the day finished by lunchtime. Knowing this, it is something that I too had considered for at least my oldest child. While some kids may thrive in a traditional school setting, it is not made for kids who learn differently. This was the case for my son, and we found sending him to school every day became increasingly more stressful for the both of us. When the schools shut down, it was a blessing in disguise...giving us the chance to discover just how much better he learned at home than in a school setting. Two years later, and he has not gone back!
While my son is not actually homeschooled (rather he does online school at home), I have definitely learned even more how important it is to have flexible schooling options that work for each child and family.
While people might have opened their eyes a little more to the idea of homeschool, there are still a lot of misconceptions about how it works and what it truly looks like. But thanks to his new documentary, we can hear more about the value of homeschooling from a homeschool dad himself: Kirk Cameron!

I was given the chance to check it out before it's release to share my thoughts. I am a fan of Kirk Cameron, so I was excited to check it out, and I found that it was both enjoyable and very informative. It addresses some of those common misconceptions, shares a look at what various styles of homeschooling might look like and the many various reasons that families might choose to homeschool. While it doesn't address all of the issues that might prevent families from homeschooling (and there are MANY valid reasons), it does help to show different ways that families made it work for them. If you have been curious about the idea, this is certainly worth checking out.
