Have you ever wondered what goes on behind the scenes of your favorite early
morning radio show? The new AFFIRM Originals "LIVE+LOCAL" takes us behind the
scenes of a fictional Christian radio station K-HUGG in this hilarious
sitcom starring Dave Coulier from Full House and Fuller House.
About
the Show:
Starring executive producer Dave Coulier and Emily
Pendergast, get an inside look at the Christian local radio station K-HUGG.
The staff is experiencing some strange transitions and power shifts at work,
but the way they handle it with grace and comedy will be sure to leave you
laughing and inspired.
Anyone who knows me personally knows that I
am a huge Full House fan. The original show came out just one month after I
was born, so I quite literally grew up watching it, and it's perhaps one of my
earliest TV memories. As an adult, I have continued to watch the original with
my own kids, and of course enjoyed Fuller House as well. So, when I saw that
this new show starred Dave Coulier, I was immediately intrigued.
I've
not typically enjoyed other shows that are done in this mockumentary format,
but I was willing to give this one a chance anyway. Let me just tell you, I
absolutely loved it!
I was specifically asked to watch and share my thoughts on the newest (as of this posting) episode, episode four. In this episode, rumors are swirling around that the station might be sold and the show format may change, causing anxiety for Tina and Tommy. In addition, the show gets some new sponsors that are--- questionable to say the least! This leads to some great messages about the damaging power of rumors, trusting God's plan and the ethical dilemma of some sponsorships.
Of course, these are all great topics and messages, but the way this show tackles them is with humor. As Tommy was reading his awful sponsored ad online, I couldn't help but laugh. Same with Tina, though for entirely different reasons. I really felt like these two characters complimented one another greatly, and it really just worked for the show. I could truly see this as being a radio show that I might enjoy listening to myself... and the show's format makes that easy to believe. Most of the episode takes place during what would be their air time. We see them talking to the audience on air, and chatting back and forth during songs. I felt like it was done really well, and the format definitely helped set it apart for me.
Another thing that really set it apart? The guest stars! Some of the guest stars during season one include Danny Ray, Leanne Morgan, John Cooper, Colton Dixon, Anna Lind Thomas, Anthem Lights, Whitney Miller, Dustin Nickerson, Jeff Allen, Dallas Jenkins, and more! The guests in this particular episode were author Anna Lind Thomas (https://annalindthomas.com/) and Christian band Anthem Lights (https://anthemlights.com/ and https://www.pureflix.com/anthemlights). What was cool about it was that they were not playing a part, but actually being interviewed on the fictional radio stations as themselves. I am sure to some degree there is some scripting there, but I couldn't saw for sure... what I can say is that it certainly added a level of authenticity to the show that I really enjoyed. I was already familiar with Anthem Lights before this, but it introduced me to Anna Lind Thomas who I was excited to look up after watching... she definitely added some great humor to the show. As did the Judge Not section of the show, but you'll have to watch for yourself to check that out, I cannot give it all away!
