From the author
of Walking on Sea Glass ... He's a big city lawyer. She's the
small town beach girl who broke his heart. Any hope for a second chance expired
twelve years earlier ...
Jax Cooper returns to Saltwater Beach but has no plans to stay any longer than
necessary. Once his mother's estate is wrapped up, he'll be on a plane back to
Chicago—and hopefully to a future as the youngest law partner in his firm.
Addi Barrett never left the small beach town of Saltwater. She chose instead to
dote on her ailing mother, help her father's business, and find new friendships
in old places. That didn't mean she never had dreams of her own ...
When a Cooper family member goes missing, a foster dog needs some lovin', and a
long-hidden secret bubbles to the surface, Jax and Addi find themselves thrown
together over and over again.
Can they find their way to a second chance at love?
Or will past hurts rise up to make happily-ever-after impossible?
BOOK EXCERPT
Sometimes it seemed to Jax that Lily fit the oldest child role
much better than he did. Not that he didn’t at least try to fulfill his big brother
duties as often as asked.
Jax cast another gaze on the concerned face of their younger
sibling, letting it linger there. Lucas had been known as “Lucky” ever since he
had emerged from the womb as a surprise. How the doctor missed that his mother
was carrying twins, he would never know. It was understandable Lucky would be
worried about his minutes-older twin since they had been inseparable since,
well, forever.
“Lily’s probably right.” Jax ran a hand across a day’s growth of
whiskers, rare for him, then rested a hand on Lucky’s shoulder. “It’s a tough
day for all of us. Let him be, if that’s what he needs.”
“Yeah.” Lucky swung a look toward the door, as if doing so would
cause it to fly open. An eerie silence hung between them. They both knew their
mother was never coming back, a thought that tugged at the heart hanging in
Jax’s chest.
Hopefully, Chase would pull it together soon, though, and return
so they could give their mother the send-off she deserved. They all needed to
keep it together one last time.
Jax
let his hand fall from Lucky’s shoulder. He took another look around the place,
a large, garage-like room built off their mother’s spacious home. A memorial
should have solemnity to it, but this one … he shook his head.
