"I remember my mother's prayers and they have always followed me. They have clung to me all my life." - Abraham Lincoln
There is something to be said about a mother's prayers, isn't there?
Perhaps one of the most powerful things we can do as Christian mothers is to pray for our children. Paul's Promise is a movie that reminds us just how powerful a praying mama truly can be. It is the inspiring true story of Paul Holderfield who goes from being a bigoted firefighter to a pastor who started one of the first integrated churches in the south. Check it out:
Synopsis: Set in the peak of the 1960s Civil Rights movement, “Paul's Promise” is the inspiring true story of Paul Holderfield, former racist firefighter-turned-pastor who started one of the first integrated churches in the American South. It’s one man’s journey to hope and healing during a troubled time in our Nation’s history that resulted in one man’s decision to serve God and stand up to injustice - a story that continues to make a huge impact on the community to this day.
Talk about a story! Fred Higgins from Assembly of God called it an "excellent presentation of a life changed by Jesus"... and it certainly was just that. From the beginning, Paul was not a very likable character but we get to go along with him on this story of change. Oftentimes as Christians, we hear a lot about God's power to change another's heart, but it can be pretty difficult for us to accept... especially when there is someone who has personally hurt us in one way or another. Knowing that this was based on a true story made this movie that much more impactful.
While the movie was an emotional ride that had me reaching for the tissues more than once, there was also a lot of southern charm and humor too. That made it even more enjoyable to watch. I particularly loved Minnie and her friends, who added a good dose of humor and grace and felt so genuine.
Overall, I thought this was an absolutely beautiful story and one that is so worth watching.
