About the Book

Fraser Title: Fraser
Series: The Minnesota Marshalls #1
Author: Susan May Warren
Publisher: SDG Publishing
Release Date: February 14, 2023
Genre: Christian Romantic Suspense

Fraser Marshall is pretty sure his career as a Spec Ops fighter is over. Yes, he’s gone into private security, working for Jones, Inc, but his last gig ended with him wounded and taken captive. And those wounds just won’t heal. The last thing he wants to do is stick around his family’s winery pressing grapes. But what choices does he have?

The answer comes via a panicked phone call from his kid brother, Creed.

Help, Fraser. I’m in over my head…

Yeah he is, because he’s run away with a princess, with her bodyguard hot on the trail. And said bodyguard, Pippa Butler is going to hunt them down, no matter the cost.

Even if she has to join forces with a bossy, arrogant former American SEAL. But Pippa has her own set of lethal skills, and if Fraser gets in the way, she’ll leave him on the side of the road. Still, maybe he’s not a terrible side-kick. He is handsome, and he makes her laugh…

No, no, bad Pippa! She has no room for a man—an American—in her life. And Fraser hasn’t ever considered slowing down. Even if Pippa has him wondering if there is a different future ahead.

But there’s more to the story than a Romeo-and-Juliet runaway romance. Princess Imani has seen a murder, and the perpetrator isn’t going to let her get away. Will Fraser and Pippa find the couple first?

And if they do, can they work together to keep them safe?

It’ll be tough if their hearts get in the way…

Author Interview

Welcome back, Susan! Thank you for once again taking the time to answer my questions and allowing my readers a chance to get to know you and your newest book Fraser better. To start, can you share 5 random facts about Fraser, or the Minnesota Marshalls series as a whole?

Oh, I love random facts!

1. Fraser draws two of the characters from Lauchtenland, which is a fictional country created by my writing partner, Rachel Hauck, in her True Blue series. I fell in love with her side character Imani, and Rachel said I could have her. Mmwwhaa!
2. Fraser and Pippa visit one of my favorite small towns in Italy—Portafino. And even better, the Gulf of Tigullio. I went scuba diving in this gulf—and nearly ran out of air!
3. Fraser has to “tend the winery” while his family is overseas. My husband makes homemade wine, so I had to quiz him on all the stages of wine making. (and our yearly trip to Napa helped me stage the descriptions of the big wine-making operations!)
4. Fraser starts the story frustrated at the slow healing process of his hand after an injury in Nigeria. I pulled on my own frustration at getting back on my feet after a total knee replacement to create that authentic emotion. Fraser gets me.
5. Pippa, the heroine, is not impressed with Fraser, and I had a lot of fun creating a character who finds him annoying instead of handsome. (okay, handsome AND annoying!)

One of the things that I personally love about your books is that your series so often intertwine with one another. How do you keep all of these characters and how they are tied together straight?

Lots and lots of charts and sheets on the walls and excel files! And I have a series bible with characters and descriptions I refer to. But I’m often taking books off the shelf and paging through previous stories to confirm eye color and background! It’s a good thing I have awesome readers who sometimes point out errors. #grateful

Though each series can be read on its own if someone DID want to go back and read them all, in what order would you recommend they be read?

Oh boy. Well, you have the Deep Haven series, which then led to the Christiansens. And then jump to the Noble Legacy (MT) and then head over to the MT Fire series. There, you’ll meet people from Montana Rescue, and from there, head over to the Montana Marshalls, but you might want to take a break first and read the Global Guardians series, because a few people jump from there to the Montana Marshalls.  After that, read the Global Search and Rescue, where you’ll meet Ham and guys, and then travel to AK to Sky King Ranch. If you want to take a break from the big books, however, you might try The Epic Story of RJ & York, because that story runs simultaneously with the Sky King Ranch series. Then, dive into the MN Marshalls.

Or just start with the MN Marshalls, and work your way back. ðŸ˜Š

Your first book was published in 2004, after nearly 20 years of publishing are there ever moments where it still feels surreal?

A little. Like when I walk into a tiny library in the middle of a small town in Georgia, and there are copies of my books! And I think…out of ALL the books they could purchase, they bought mine. WOW. And then I’m humbled. And then struck with the immense responsibility of creating a great story that edifies and shares truth through authentic characters.

If you could go back and tell your newly-published self one thing, what would it be?

Stay the course. Keep learning. A career is built one book at a time.

Can you tell us a little bit more about Fraser

Fraser is the oldest brother, and he feels both estranged from his dreams for his career after suffering captivity and a broken wrist, but also estranged a little from his family whom he’s spent so much time away from. Which is why he jumps at the chance to help Creed when he goes on the run with Imani (after they witness a murder). As usual. God is up to something, so he discovers that a little trust, and walking through open doors leads to the answer he’s been hoping for. Oh, and a beautiful, brave bodyguard from Lauchtenland. ðŸ˜Š

What was the most challenging part of bringing this story to life? The most rewarding?

Since I was using a world not mine (Lauchtenland) and a character I didn’t originally create (Imani) I had to dive into those stories and work hard to stay true to the feel of that character. And, since it’s a series, I also had to weave in all the story threads that would continue over five books. But it was SO FUN to finally tell Fraser’s story!

What do you hope readers will take away from the book?

That even in our darkest times, even when we feel we’ve been forgotten, there is hope, a plan and a future. We just have to trust.

Thank you again for taking the time to answer these questions. Before you go, are there any other projects you are currently working on that you can share?

Sure! I just finished proofing JONAS, book 2 in the series, and out in March. And NED is off to the editor (Out in May). And I’m currently plotting IRIS.

And I’m noodling on a new series for next year—Air One Alaska.

Thank you for having me today!
