Author Interview
I like to start these interviews the same way, with something fun to break the ice. Can you share 5 random facts about you that we will not find in your bio?
1. I volunteer as a CASA—Court Appointed Special Advocate.
2. I’m a huge dog lover and share my house with a border collie and a collie mix.
3. My favorite travel destination is Turks and Caicos Islands.
4. I enjoy camping.
5. My favorite classic book is Wuthering Heights.
When did you first discover you had a passion for writing?
About seven years ago, I got the idea for a story that wouldn’t go away. I decided to try writing a book and became hooked. That idea became my first published story, HOME FIELD.
What drew you to romantic suspense?
I love reading romantic suspense because the stories might be a little scary but you know there’s a guaranteed happy ending.
As a suspense writer, what’s the most incriminating search we might find in your history from research?
Probably searching for a drug that would render a person unconscious for a short while but not kill them.
If you had to describe your hero and heroine in this story in just three words each, what would they be?
Kayla—guarded damaged heart; Nicolas—naturally fierce protector
Can you tell us a little bit more about Safeguarding the Witness?
It’s my debut Harlequin book! Along with pulse pounding action and suspense, Safeguarding the Witness deals with strong emotions, such as regret and forgiveness. The heroine has been wronged in the past and has every reason to not return home when her father asks for help. Her answering his call and coming to protect her little sister starts her on a path toward forgiveness and healing.
What was the most challenging part of bringing this story to life? The most rewarding?
I find writing a satisfying romance the hardest part in writing romantic suspense. In order for a reader to invest in a story and root for the hero and heroine, they have to feel the emotions the characters are feeling. The hero and heroine have to be perfect for one another yet have huge obstacles standing in their way to a happy every after. I hope I did a good job in Safeguarding the Witness of bringing Kayla and Nicolas's love story to life.
What do you hope readers will take away from the book?
I hope readers will fall in love with all the characters in the story as much as I have. My favorite character is Kayla’s therapy dog, Sasha, who I know will steal hearts.
Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions. Before you go, where can readers follow along to see what’s coming next?
My next Harlequin romantic suspense is part of their Cold Case line and will be released in January 2024, titled HUNTED BY A KILLER.
