As the 4th of July approaches, many of us are already planning ahead to the celebrations.
Each year, fireworks light up the sky as we celebrate the freedoms that we have here in America. A freedom that- if we're being honest- many of us don't give much of a thought to.
But did you know that there are more humans enslaved now than during any time in history--- to include when slavery was legal? Sadly, many of those are children.
Sound of Freedom is a powerful new film from Angel Studios (The Chosen, His Only Son) based on an
incredible true story that gives us a glimpse of that reality. Take a look:
Sound of Freedom, based on the incredible true story, shines a light on even the darkest of places. After rescuing a young boy from ruthless child traffickers, a federal agent learns the boy’s sister is still captive and decides to embark on a dangerous mission to save her. With time running out, he quits his job and journeys deep into the Colombian jungle, putting his life on the line to free her from a fate worse than death.
I was given the opportunity to watch a screener of this film before it's theatrical release... and oh my goodness what a movie it is! Let's just be 100% clear--- this isn't a movie to watch with the family, and not one that I would say is all that enjoyable to watch either. Frankly, it's absolutely heartbreaking. BUT it's an important story that absolutely must be told.
While nothing super graphic is shown on the screen, it doesn't sugar coat the reality of what human trafficking really is. There is fairly frank talk about the buying/selling of children. Still, I feel like though it is raw, it is also handled very well. I certainly wouldn't recommend it for younger or more sensitive audiences... but for those that CAN handle it, everyone needs to see this film!
