Welcome back, Jerusha! Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions and giving my readers a chance to get to know you and your new book Unseen Danger.  
 
To start, can you share 5 random facts about this book?  

The heroine’s first name, Nevaeh, is “heaven” spelled backwards! 

Though Nevaeh’s K-9 looks much like a rottweiler, he’s actually a mixed breed dog that was rescued by the owner of a no-kill shelter and trained to work as a protection K-9. 

Unseen Danger is the longest book in the Guardians Unleashed Series so far.  

Unseen Danger features an interracial couple. 

Nevaeh Williams and her siblings were raised by their grandparents. 
 
What was the inspiration behind this story? 

When I led a Bible study at a county jail, I heard the true story of a correctional officer who was attacked on duty.  

In many ways, the horror of that incident prompted Nevaeh’s story about the effects of trauma and finding the only way to truly overcome that trauma and the fear it spawned. 
 
Let’s talk about research. What research went into writing this book?  

Since this book features a hip-hop rapper who needs protection, I had fun connecting with a friend and hip-hop afficionado who helped me with the ins and outs of hip-hop that I couldn’t find answers to online. 

I also had to do a deep dive into the career of personal protection specialists to write about hero Branson Aaberg.  
 
What was the most interesting thing you learned in the process?  

I learned what a hype man is. Since I virtually never listen to hip-hop and have never attended a hip-hop concert, I had no idea a rapper has the job of hyping up and exciting a crowd before the main artist comes on stage and throughout the concert. 
 
What was the most challenging part of bringing this story to life? The most rewarding? 

To be honest, this story felt messier than most of mine as I plotted and wrote it. I was worried the story wouldn’t come together, despite my prayers that the Lord would make it into something powerful that would minister to readers. 

But once the story was finished and I gained some distance from it, I began to see and hope that perhaps God had answered my prayer with a “yes.”  

Now that I’ve received reactions from readers, I’m completely awed by what God has done with this “messy” story.  

And that’s the most rewarding part of Unseen Danger. That this story I thought would never come together or be strong enough is becoming not only one of my most popular books but also having a tremendous impact in people’s lives. 

What a privilege it is to have God use this story in such a powerful way! 
 
What do you hope readers will take away from the book?  

That fear is not our friend! Our culture tries to teach us that fear is a good thing, even a helpful thing.  

But the Bible tells us that’s a lie. And it’s a particularly harmful lie that tempts us to label evil as good and to tolerate sin in our own lives. 

Through Nevaeh’s journey of grappling with overwhelming fear, I hope and pray readers will be encouraged and inspired by the truth she learns. The truth that we need to fight our fear and that, through the power of Jesus Christ, we will win the battle and find freedom at last! 

 
Your website tagline states, ‘Fear. Love. Hope. Repeat.’ How do you find the balance between these things when writing suspense?  

I chose this tagline not to represent separate elements that need to be balanced but instead to encapsulate a story all of us need to hear. 

All of us experience fear in our lives, in one form or another. And the antidote to fear is love. In my books, that love often takes the form of a romantic love but also—most importantly—the love of God.  

When we come to know that love, we have hope—the hope that illuminates even the darkest corners of this world and our lives. The hope that banishes all fear. 

This is the story I repeatedly tell in my books because it’s the one we all need to hear, the one we all need to know in our own lives. 

Jesus Christ, Who died to save His children because of His great love, offers redemption, hope, freedom from fear, and so much more for those who believe in Him. I hope my readers will find Him in the pages of my stories. 
 
Unseen Danger is the third book in the Guardians Unleashed series. Will readers be able to enjoy this story if they have not yet read the previous books?  

Yes, absolutely! Each book is written as a standalone story, so readers don’t have to read the books in order. The series connection between the books are overlapping characters from the Phoenix K-9 Security and Detection Agency. I’ve had readers start with Unseen Danger and love it so much that they then go back and read the earlier installments!
