Because when you do, you’ll leave me again.

Had he really said that? Out loud? Sam shoved food into his mouth, wishing there were a TV in this room. Anything to distract him from the woman by the fire. The way the flickering light danced on her sable-colored hair. The way her eyes, flashing in anger just a few minutes before, now held determination as she ate her dinner. As if she had to fight for every spoonful.

He wanted to fight for her. Fight like he’d never fought for anything. But he knew how that story ended. He might be willing to fight for her, but as soon as he didn’t measure up…

She’d be gone.

About the Author

Robin Patchen is a USA Today bestselling and award-winning author of Christian romantic suspense. She grew up in a small town in New Hampshire, the setting of her Nutfield Saga books, and then headed to Boston to earn a journalism degree. After college, working in marketing and public relations, she discovered how much she loathed the nine-to-five ball and chain. After relocating to the Southwest, she started writing her first novel while she homeschooled her three children. The novel was dreadful, but her passion for storytelling didn’t wane.
