A Fish Out of Water by Savannah Scott: Book Review

*Book received for consideration. All thoughts are my own.

I knew trying to make a fresh start on Marbella Island would mean reinventing myself.
I'm only here while I work my way up to my dream role in a major motion picture in Hollywood.
Which explains why I took a role playing a mermaid in the island production of
In So Deep.

What I didn't count on?
Ben. The charmer who just took a job as a water sports instructor.

Everyone loves Ben.
Everyone but me.

Sure, when I saw him step off the ferry on his first day, I thought he was gorgeous. His mussed hair--light brown with blond highlights, those brown eyes that are deceptively kind, the way his chiseled jawline makes him look so manly, but then his face still holds a boyish charm.

And then he opened his mouth and laid the cheesiest line on me.
Every red flag and warning bell sounded in my brain: Steer clear of the player.

Ben is like a sea otter, all cute and playful, until he turns and charges you.
Haven't you ever heard of a sea otter attack?
Well, I'm sure it's a thing. And I'm not getting close enough to test that theory.
Close to sea otters, I might. Close to Ben, no thank you.

And now, Ben seems to be everywhere I go. He's at the coffee shop when I get my morning latte. He's the one at the rental shack when I take a kayak out to visit the locals on the north side of the island ... and now, he's going to be the male lead in the play I'm in.

The pirate to my mermaid.

I am determined to keep a safe distance from Ben, even if he's determined to keep trying to prove he's not as dangerous as I think he is.

Savannah Scott loves writing happily-ever-after romcoms with scenes where kisses make you melt. Her characters feel like long lost friends, and the settings make you want to take off on a road trip to visit.

You will smile. You will laugh. Yes. You will need coffee because you stayed up past your bedtime reading. Sorry, not sorry.

If you can’t find Savannah, she’s probably hiding with a book, dancing Zumba, or going a little crazy being the fun carpool mom who cranks the tunes and always goes through the drive-thru for copious amounts of sugar and fat on the way home from school.

(Can you keep a secret? I thought so. Savannah also writes as Patty H Scott, which is the Clark Kent to her Superman. If you like clean romance, check out Patty's books.)

A Fish Out of Water is the second book in the Love Trippin series. While book one is fantastic and highly recommended as well, this could definitely be enjoyed as a standalone as well.

From the moment we saw their first meeting in the first book, I absolutely could not wait to get to Ben and Summer's story (don't worry we get to see if from their POV in this one, so you won't miss anything there) ... and it was absolutely worth the wait! If you've read book one, you know that Ben is impossible not to adore... unless you're Summer that is! He's such a fun, charming character... but she's been hurt by a charmer in her life before and wants no part of him. At all. But thankfully, Ben is persistent! This is such a fantastic story with a great enemy to more storyline... I loved their banter, and the way Ben finds himself losing his typical smoothness around Summer... and when she finally starts to let him in? Oh my goodness, the chemistry! Those first kisses were just absolute perfection.

I admittedly initially wasn't sure how I felt about Summer, but as we get to know her and see WHY she's so wary about Ben and relationships in general, I found that I really came to like her character in the end... the two of them together were the absolute sweetest and I could not get enough!

A Fish Out of Water is a closed-door romance with kisses only and no language.
