Book Excerpt

Tamala blinked rapidly to stay awake and focus on any movement around her. No one else was out and the park was mostly shrouded in darkness. Tiny flakes of snow reflected in the overhead lights. She was really being hunted and nothing about it felt real.

Had it really been less than an hour since someone had shot at them?

A pop broke the silence and Clint’s truck lost all control, careening off the road and down into a shallow ditch. Clint gripped the wheel, trying to remain in control. Her mind froze and she reached for the door to escape, but questioned if that was the smartest thing to do. Someone had just shot out their tire. She wasn’t going to be any safer outside of the truck.

Clint gripped her shoulder and pushed her down, covering her with his body. She couldn’t see or hear anything, but the pounding of her heartbeat in her ears.

“I’m getting out to look around. Do not move.” He pulled his gun as he slowly backed away from her.

She huddled on the floorboard, praying that the whole situation would end soon. Clint hadn’t even closed the door before he fired three shots in rapid succession. Another bullet lodged in his truck, a black hole in the extended cab behind Clint’s seat the only remaining evidence. She yelled, covering her head. “Clint!” He was out there alone and the only protection he had was his gun.
