The Book
Moving back to Ridgeview was the last thing I wanted. I got away from here as soon as I could and I’ve hardly looked back. Yet here I am, twelve years later, living in my hometown where ghosts of broken dreams and promises haunt me around every corner. Even when my life fell apart and I had to make a new plan I never planned to fall in love. Not with anyone, but especially not with her.
Millie Jacobson, my best friend’s little sister and my little brother’s best friend. To sum it up: it’s complicated. I’ve known her since the day she was born. We grew up together. Somehow along the way she grew up. She’s no longer that gangly little girl who sang at the top of her lungs at my baseball games anymore than I am that kid who couldn’t wait to get out of Ridgeview and make the major leagues.
Now if I could only figure out a way to get her to take a chance on me.
Breaking the Best Friend Code is a closed door romantic comedy with real life issues, elements of self reflection and discovery, awkward and clumsy moments, and lots of love and banter. There is no swearing and no intimacy beyond sweet and swoony kissing.
California born and raised, current Texas resident. Amy studied Early Childhood and Special Education at Snow College and Brigham Young University Idaho. Amy is an early childhood teacher, an avid reader, and is a trained choral singer. When she isn’t writing, Amy enjoys cooking, baking, and spending time with her golden doodle, Bennet.
The Jacobson and Winters families have absolutely won my heart! I must admit that at the start of the story, it took me a bit to keep everyone straight... there were a lot of family members introduced between the two families. The author did include a character chart before the book began and glossary at the end, which was super helpful--- and would be even more so in the paperback copy too! While it took me a little bit to sort everyone and their relationships out, once I did, I couldn't help but be drawn in by each and every one of them. Millie and Mark are each other's brother's best friends with families that are super close too. As such, when he comes back to town and they find themselves falling for each other... well, it gets a little complicated to say the least! The chemistry between them was really sweet, and I loved getting glimpses into their history, making me root for them all that much more. There were definitely some complicated family dynamics that they had to work through to get their happily ever after, but it certainly paid off in the end. As much as I loved Millie and Mark, I really did love their siblings just as much too... I find myself very much hoping to see more from all of them in future books in the series. With a debut like this, I very much look forward to seeing what Amy Green writes next!
