Love is a Roller Coaster by Marie Soleil: Book Review

*Book received for consideration. All thoughts are my own.

The Book

Six former college roommates are about to find love…all in the same summer.

One week before my wedding, I catch my fiancé cheating on me (again). Well, forget him. I make the bold move to cancel the wedding and take the honeymoon—alone. It’s not how I envisioned my week in the small beach town of Canyon Cove, Southern California, but I’m determined to enjoy it anyway.

What I didn’t count on was running into Tyler Matthews.

I should’ve known I’d see him again. Five years ago, we had an unforgettable summer romance right here in Canyon Cove. And it turns out Tyler made something of himself—he actually OWNS the hotel I’m staying at. Great job, universe! Way to flip the script on me.

I can’t help the pull I feel towards him again. He’s magnetic, but he’s everything I shouldn’t have—his carefree, easygoing nature doesn’t fit with my life goals. But when he invites me to go to Disneyland with him…I can’t resist.

What can I say?

Love is a roller coaster.

Love is a Roller Coaster is a sweet second-chance romantic comedy novella with swoony kisses and no spice! It's part of the Sunkissed Summer Novellas, a multi-author collaboration about six former college roommates who are about to find love in the same summer. Make sure to read them all!

The Author

Marie writes heart-warming, sweet and clean romantic stories with big life lessons and character growth. She won the Swoony Award in 2022 for Best Debut Author. When she's not writing, she can be found watching The Office, playing the piano, sewing a dress, or reading a book (while consuming copious amounts of chocolate). She lives in sunny Southern California with her husband of 15 years, three children, and ten chickens.

Book Review

Love is a Roller Coaster is part of the Sunkissed Summer Novella series. This is a multi-author series with connected characters (former college roommates) but can absolutely be enjoyed as standalones or in any order.

This was such a fun read! Brooke shows up to what was supposed to be her honeymoon on her own and discovers that her one-time summer romance Tyler is the owner of the hotel she's staying at. As they spend time together, it becomes clear that those feelings are still there. I just adored these two together. Their chemistry was super sweet, and I loved how Tyler wanted nothing more than her happiness... which is not something she was used to. Their romance was definitely on the quick side- as novellas so often are- but it worked for them, and I think having that history already certainly helped too! I absolutely loved their Disneyland trip... it was so fun and definitely reminded me of my first and only trip! That nostalgia certainly made this book even sweeter to me! Despite its shorter length (it could easily be read in just 1-2 sittings), this didn't feel at all rushed or like anything was missing. It was the perfect quick summer romance, and I enjoyed every minute.

Love is a Roller Coaster is a closed-door romance with kisses only and no language.
