Camp Help Falling by Ashley Funk: Book Review

**ARC received for consideration. All opinions are my own.

The Book

Sadie
I’m over the moon to be the new camp director of Camp Brower, the place I spent every summer since the time I was twelve, and I’ll do anything to make my mark on the old camp now that it's under new ownership. But now that I’ve graduated with my bachelor’s degree, it’s time to find something a little more permanent and a little less seasonal.

It would be easier to close the door on that part of my life if it weren’t for Oliver, the owners’ son, who waltzes in just in time to upend my plans to make this my last summer at Camp Brower. I just hope I don’t let the Evanses down when I can’t come back…

Oliver
If I were to make a list of the things I’m grateful my parents have done in the last year, buying a summer camp would not be one of them. Until I lose my job, my girlfriend, and my apartment. Now, Camp Brower looks like a pretty good place to get away and recoup. The old, rundown camp is only a stop—hardly a blip in my path toward getting my architect license.

When a family emergency lands me with a job as a lead counselor at the camp, my immediate plans take a back seat. Especially as I get to know Sadie, the camp director. Even though a relationship with her is off the table due to the camp’s rules, trying to resist Sadie’s pull is about as impossible as trying to learn all of these ridiculous camp songs…

Camp Help Falling is a sweet, summer camp romantic comedy novella with swoony kisses and no spice! It's part of the Sunkissed Summer Novellas, a multi-author series about six former college roommates who are about to find love in the same summer. Make sure to read them all!

The Author

Ashley grew up near the mountains, where she dreamed of being a fantasy author from a very young age. Imagine how surprised she was when she fell in love with and began writing romantic comedies. When she's not writing or wrangling her kids, she loves going on long-ish runs, avoiding the laundry, and drinking Dr. Pepper. She now lives in a small mountain town in Utah with her husband and five children.

Book Review

Camp Help Falling is the fifth book in the Sunkissed Summer Novellas series. This is a multi-author series with interconnected characters but can be enjoyed as standalones as well.

I just absolutely adored this book. First of all, having spent many of my summers as a kid/teen at camp and the camp I attended as a teenager truly being one of my absolute favorite places, this one brought back so much of that camp nostalgia for me. Beyond that though, I loved Sadie and Oliver together. Their chemistry is absolutely fantastic and clear right from the start, but when he starts working at the camp, the no purpling rule makes him completely off-limits. (And that was certainly a camp reference that had me laughing out loud!) I'm not usually one for the forbidden or secret romances, but honestly, I couldn't help but fall in love with these two anyway! And that first kiss!? Oh, so good!! This was a super quick read, but not short on the swoony or laugh out loud moments and I loved every minute of it.

Camp Help Falling is a closed-door romance with kisses only and no language.
