Raine, Raine, Run Away by India Tungate: Book Review

**ARC received for consideration. All opinions are my own.

The Book

After a decade away, Raine Wiley is forced to confront her past when a family emergency brings her back to Covewood, Kentucky—the small town she's painstakingly avoided. Her mission: steer clear of Ryland Quinn at all costs. But fate has other plans, entangling her with Ryland as he oversees the renovation of her grandparents' farmhouse—a project she unwittingly signed up to lead.

Escaping the past is about to prove more complicated than she ever imagined.

Ryland Quinn’s world turns sideways when his long-lost love resurfaces. While juggling a thriving construction business and single parenthood, his carefully constructed barriers begin to crumble in the face of Raine's unexpected return. The allure of a second chance at love proves irresistible, tearing down the emotional walls he's built for years.

Told through alternating timelines of then and now, witness the blossoming of teenage friendship between Raine and Ryland, evolving into a deep love that crumbles when Raine abruptly vanishes following their high school graduation. As adults, their forced proximity reignites the spark they both left behind. Yet, Raine and Ryland must confront the pain of the past if they have any chance of moving forward. Will the discovered truths set them free, or will they propel Raine to flee once more?

Book Review

Oh my goodness, this book! It absolutely has my heart and had my emotions going all over the place. The romance was so tender and swoon worthy with the undeniable chemistry between Raine and Ryland. I loved every moment with them together. Second chance romances are some of my favorites, and this one was done perfectly. The story alternates between the present and their high school days, allowing us to see them fall in love for the first time, but also to see the healing that needs to happen between them. Despite the sweet love story, their story was also one full of a lot of heartbreak. Grief and healing from past trauma were big themes in this story, and I thought the author did a fantastic job of balancing the two to create a beautiful story that I couldn't help but fall in love with. That said, it does deal with the loss of a grandparent, alcoholic parents, and abuse. As such, it could be potentially triggering for some readers. This was definitely one of those stories that will absolutely break your heart... but put it back together by the end. I am in complete awe that this is the author's debut novel. With such a beautiful debut, I absolutely cannot wait to see what she does next!

Raine, Raine, Run Away is a Christian closed-door romance with swoon worthy kisses, but nothing beyond that and no language.
