The Book

Our contractor declared bankruptcy and we now have to leave our bookstore opening into the hands of a professional hockey team.

Thankfully, the guys are also skilled off the ice and dedicated to help us make our dream come true.

Particularly, Maxime, my friend’s brother who’s a relentless flirt with a goofy personality.
And as hot as he might be, I don’t do boyfriends. Unless they’re made of ink and paper and have shifting abilities, I’m out.
Plus, I don’t get why Maxime Beaumont, a rising star in the NHL, would take an interest in me. I’m far from the gorgeous specimen asking for his autographs or throwing their bras on the ice.

But when I make the mistake of recommending books to him, he gets pointers from the best book boyfriends out there, and starts texting me about books, throwing words like HEA and tropes like it’s always been part of his vocabulary.

It was hard enough to resist him before but now I don’t think I stand a chance.

Houston: we might have a best friend’s brother situation on our hands.

Book Review

This book was so fun! Three best friends (who met on Bookstagram) are opening up a bookstore, but when things with the contractor don't go as planned, they need a little extra help... enter Maxime, brother to one of the girls and his entire NHL hockey team to get the job done! Right from the start, Maxime is drawn to Hayley and I couldn't get enough of his flirting and pursuing of her... and the banter between them when she resists. Best friend's brother? Check. Hockey player? Check. Bookish FMC? Check. He falls first and hard? Check. This one checks off so many of my very favorite things in a romance... and does so in a really fun way that I couldn't help but absolutely love. There's so much chemistry, but it's also super sweet too. I love the way that he wants her to see herself the way he does... as someone who struggles with self-esteem issues myself, this body positivity message is so important to see!

Beyond the romance, this was also really a celebration and love letter to the Bookstagram community! I loved all the book talk and references that were sprinkled throughout. I also loved seeing some familiar names--- my own included--- with characters and authors being named after a mashup of various bookstagrammers! Marion's books always give me such joy to read, but those extra touches definitely make this one super special and have me looking forward to more in this series!

The Tenacious Act is a closed-door romance with nothing beyond kisses. There is a brief mention of sex and a small amount of minor language throughout.
