This Above All by Dana LeCheminant: Book Review

**ARC received for consideration. All opinions are my own.

The Book

Emma Mackenzie wants nothing more than an independent life, and she’s well on her way to securing it. But one thing stands in her way: Nicholas Forester, the man with whom she’s in competition for her grandfather’s land and money. If Nick can find a wife, that is. Her plan is simple: she will prevent him from forming any attachments and claiming the inheritance that is rightfully hers.

Nick will settle for nothing less than the deepest love—but there’s a catch. He must marry before the year is out if he is to inherit a great fortune. When he meets a lively young woman during his visit to the country, their attraction is immediate. Almost as immediate as his regret when he realizes that the woman is none other than Emma, the one person who could ruin his financial future.

As a web of secrets begins to unravel and romantic subterfuge ensues, Nick and Emma find themselves unlikely allies. When Emma learns that she, too, is required to wed before she can claim the inheritance, she sees only one scenario in which everyone gets what they want. But with everything she’s done to get in Nick’s way, the task before her may prove impossible. She must convince him to marry her.

The Author

Dana LeCheminant has been telling stories since she was old enough to know what stories were. After spending most of her childhood reading everything she could get her hands on, she realized she could write her own books, and since then, she has always had plots brewing and characters clamoring to be the next to have their stories told. Until her endless imagination runs dry, she will always have another story to tell.

Book Review

This Above All is the second book in the series. I had personally not read the previous book and found it read just fine as a standalone--- though the brief mentions of the previous couple certainly did have me excited to go back and read it too!

Admittedly, Regency romance is not one of my go-to genres, as they can be rather hit and miss for me. I love Dana LeCheminant's contemporary books though, and thought this one sounded really interesting, so I decided to give it a chance anyway... and I'm so glad that I did. Right away, these characters drew me in... Emma is fiercely independent and knows that she doesn't need a husband to take care of her grandfather's land--- if only she could convince him of such. Nick didn't seem like he'd be the most likeable of characters at first, but the more we learn about his past, the more you couldn't help but root for him too. I loved their initial meet-cute but then we they learn they are in a rivalry for the same inheritance? That enemies to rival banter and fun takes over and I absolutely adored it! I adored their rivalry just as much as their undeniable chemistry. And oh, the letters! I won't give too much away, but this is such a sweet romance that you absolutely won't want to miss. Truly, if every regency romance was as fantastic as this one, I could see it becoming a go-to after all!

This Above All is a closed-door romance with kisses only and no language.
