Britta & the Beach Boy by Brittany Larsen: Book Review

**ARC received for consideration. All opinions are my own.

The Book

No flirting. No kissing. And absolutely, positively, NO falling in love.

Those are Britta’s top three conditions (there are a few dozen more) when she agrees to marry Liam “Dex” Dexter, aka the top surfer in the world.

He needs American citizenship to achieve his goal of surfing in the Olympics. She needs a pile of money to buy a coffee shop and reach her dream of leaving her small hometown behind to live in LA. Britta can help Dex get his citizenship, and he’s got the money for her coffee shop. They’re a perfect match…

Just as long as they don’t give into their undeniable attraction to each other.

Which turns out to be harder than they’d planned once being married means living together and sharing a bed in order to convince the public their impromptu marriage is the real deal. With big goals and big obstacles ahead, the last thing Britta and Dex need is to get distracted by love. Their marriage is supposed to be a path to their dreams, not the thing that derails them.

When marriage doesn’t lead to their ultimate goals, Britta and Dex have to decide what takes true courage. Chasing huge dreams? Or embracing the moments of heartache that always come with lasting love?

Britta & the Beach Boy is a kisses-only, marriage-of-convenience, romantic comedy with lots of laughs, hot Australian surfers, and a few heart-tugging moments. The only steam is in the coffee, but the kisses give the story just the right amount of heat.

While Britta & the Beach Boy is the first book in the Love in LA series, you can meet Britta and her family in the Love in Paradise Valley series.Every book is a standalone…but you’re gonna want to read them all.

The Author

Brittany Larsen is an Idaho girl who's spent the last twenty plus years in California raising daughters, reading just about anything, and writing--not necessarily in that order. Hot yoga is her happy/uncomfortable place. She loves a good romance, whether it's set in modern-day, nineteenth century England, or the Old West, as long as it's got a feisty heroine and makes her laugh and/or sigh.

Book Review

Britta and the Beach Boy is the first book in the Love in LA series, but Britta and her family were first introduced in the Love in Paradise Valley series. This can be enjoyed just fine as a standalone if you have not read that series.

This was such a wonderful story! Right from the start, Britta and Dex drew me in with their easy chemistry and banter. When Britta heads to LA for what was supposed to be a short-term trip, she learns that there is so much more to Dex and the world of professional surfing than she first thought from their initial interactions. I didn't know a whole lot about this world myself, but this book definitely drew me into it and kept me captivated. When Dex realizes he can potentially make his Olympic dreams come true as an American citizen... and Britta finds herself needing some extra funds to purchase an LA coffee shop, a business marriage of convenience seemed like an ideal solution for both. This story absolutely surprised me. I can't go into details without giving it away, but there was definitely a turn that I absolutely did not see coming that really took this story to the next level. While it had plenty of laugh out loud moments, it also had me reaching for the tissues on more than one occasion and I loved every minute of it. I cannot wait to see what happens next in the series!

Britta and the Beach Boy is a closed-door romance with kisses only.
