The dead body on the table opened its eyes. A chill rushed through her body.
“You! It’s all your fault. All you had to do was help them find my killer. But no. You screwed it all up.”
Tracie Hunter bolted upright, thankful for the screech of her alarm yanking her from the clutches of the dream. Swiping at the sweat on her forehead, she breathed in through her nose and out through a tight O in her lips, then swung her legs over the edge of the bed.
Her Apple Watch buzzed at her. She glanced at the small screen. High heart rate. Well, no kidding. She’d just had the nightmare. Again.
It had been eons since that horrible case, but every once in a while, it still snuck up on her. Haunted her for days, until she could shake its tight fingers from choking the life out of her.
