Break My Heart by Marianne Willis: Book Review

**ARC received for consideration. All opinions are my own.

The Book

Max

I’ve already destroyed the others, crushed their hopes and dreams. Now Roxanne is the last on my list. One problem though…this woman’s getting under my skin, just as she had ten years ago, but I’ll be damned before making the same mistake twice. I’ve taken over the company she works for, I’ve taken control of her job, and soon enough I’ll destroy her completely.

Roxanne

These weird encounters I’m experiencing all stem back to him, to my past. I made mistakes, big ones, but I’ve changed. For ten years I’ve been held captive by guilt, and now the past has returned to utterly crush me. Could my new boss, this strange and mysterious man release the pain I’ve carried all these years? Could he be my second chance at happiness, or am I destined for another broken heart?

The Author

As a full-time housewife and mother, Marianne Willis daydreams in her spare time and turns those dreams into stories. Happily married, she lives in Sydney, Australia, and can't imagine living anyplace else. Aside from writing, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, and is a lover of lychee martinis and cheese platters.

Book Review

When I first read the blurb for this book, I was definitely intrigued... but also a little uncertain about what to expect. A romance between a MMC who is out for revenge... and the FMC he's seeking revenge on!? How would that work out? But from the very beginning, I found myself drawn into Max and Roxanne's story. It was definitely complicated and messy (and full of misunderstandings), but it held my attention and had me on the edge of my seat until I saw how it was all going to work out. Throughout the story, we are given looks at their past together and offered these little hints as to what had happened, but also with enough doubt to keep you guessing. It was a unique story that I couldn't help but adore. The chemistry, the secrets, the misunderstandings... it all worked together in this wonderful romance that I absolutely could not put down.

Break My Heart is a closed-door romance with implied intimacy and minimal minor language.
