For the Rednecks by Millie Shepherd: Book Review

**ARC received for consideration. All opinions are my own.

The Book

Her bakery is failing and close to shutting down. His political campaign is going to tank unless he changes something quickly. Will a marriage of convenience save both of their careers?

Foster
I never thought my status as a bachelor would affect my gubernatorial campaign, yet according to my best friend and campaign manager, not having a woman is what’s standing in my way of being governor. But there are two problems. One, there isn’t any candidate that would be wife material. Two, I don’t ever plan on getting married. Not when I have too many problems from my time in the Navy. But when I run into my best friend’s little sister whom I completely forgot about, my whole life changes. Changes in ways I least expected…

Callie
My bakery is my whole life, yet my whole life seems to be crashing around me thanks to broken mixers. Broken mixers I can’t afford to fix. But when I happen to get plowed into by my oldest brother’s best friend, who slipped my mind for nearly fifteen years, my problems seem to be solved. Or at least I hope that’s what his business deal marriage proposal means…

The Author

Millie Shepherd is a twenty-one-year-old author and second generation homeschool graduate. She has been a storyteller her whole life, but it wasn’t until after her eighteenth birthday that she began to pen down the stories that filled her mind. Creating new characters and getting to tell their stories is something that makes her the happiest. When she’s not writing or plotting out a new story, she’s likely watching old westerns, sewing, reading, or dabbling into photography and digital design. Millie lives in the mountains of West Virginia with her family. You can find her on Instagram at millieshepherd.author and on Facebook at Millie Shepherd.

Book Review

For the Rednecks is the second book in the Love on the Ballot series. This is a multi-author series with all books being able to be enjoyed in any order or as standalones.

This was such a sweet read. I may not love real life politics, but I'm finding with this series that I'm rather enjoying the fictional variety. Callie was Foster's best friend's little sister, whom he hadn't seen or thought of for seventeen years when they story begins. But when they have a chance encounter and then he finds himself in need of a wife to aid his political campaign (and her in need of some help with her bakery), they find themselves thrown together into a marriage of convenience... though it certainly doesn't feel fake for very long. I thought these two had a really easy chemistry between them and I loved how naturally their relationship seemed to blossom (marriage aside, of course). They supported each other beautifully, and I adored that. While the overall feeling of the story is pretty lighthearted, it does deal with PTSD, which is a topic that I think is so important even in fiction so that's definitely something that I appreciated in their story. If you love marriage of convenience, brother's best friend and an age gap, this is certainly one you'll want to check out.

For the Rednecks is a closed-door romance. It does have implied intimacy and a VERY subtle fade to black moment, all between a married couple and without any detail.
