Lost Daydreaming by Hillary Slaughter: Book Review

**ARC received for consideration. All opinions are my own.

The Book

Finding a job out of state and building a new life away from loss and family expectations was supposed to be the easy part.

Unfortunately for Chloe, the universe didn't get that memo. Now she's a jobless college graduate, trying to figure out what's next.

When her best friend Derek drags her to a friend's Halloween party, she's ready to call it an early night so she can return to wallowing on her couch. What she doesn't expect is to meet her perfect guy. He's attractive, gainfully employed, and can carry a conversation. The only downside: he's obsessed with Halloween, Chloe's least favorite holiday.

Now, thanks to a bet with Derek (the world's worst wingman), Chloe's forced to attend every Halloween activity she's invited to. On the up side, this means she gets to see a lot of her dream guy. But it also means she and Derek are spending a lot of quality time together and it has Chloe reevaluating her choice to stick Derek in the friendzone.

However, letting Derek in means being vulnerable and opening herself up to pain she's fought for years to bury. Can Chloe find the courage to face her past and allow love in, even when it means letting go of her daydreams and embracing reality and all its complications?

Lost Daydreaming is a friends-to-lovers contemporary romance packed with autumn vibes, swoony moments, and a cinnamon role hero who will capture your heart. This interconnected standalone is perfect for readers who love their humor mixed with a large helping of heart!

Book Review

Lost Daydreaming is the third book in the Lost Roommates series. While those who have read the previous books will see familiar characters, this could definitely be enjoyed as a standalone as well.

Wow, what a beautiful and emotional story this was! I loved the friendship between Derek and Chloe. Derek's interest in Chloe seems pretty obvious to everyone else, but the two have never found themselves single at the same time. Even at the start (and through much) of the story, Chloe is pursuing someone else. While I don't always love that, I don't think there was any question who would come out on top here and as such, I found I didn't mind it at all! I loved all the Halloween and fall activities throughout this story, and as someone who also doesn't do scary, I could certainly relate to Chloe in her feelings on that and I loved how these events brought the two of them closer together.  While the Halloween bet would have made for an entertaining story in and of itself, it is the deeper moments that really set this story apart. Both Derek and Chloe have been affected by cancer (him with his dad in the present, and her with her sister in the past), which led to some really emotional and heartfelt moments between them. (You'll definitely want to have tissues handy.) I loved this message of finding someone who loves you even in the unhappy moments... so very beautiful.

Lost Daydreaming is a closed-door romance with kisses only.
