The Book
In the vibrant autumn colors of St. Paul, Minnesota, love and politics pirouette together in A Ballet for the People, a Romeo & Juliet-esque romantic comedy with a touch of Step Up.
Max Covington, a dedicated senator with a heart for his community, has always prioritized his public service over personal happiness. As he battles a luxury development threatening his old neighborhood, fate brings him into contact with Mia Hamilton at a high-society gala. Mia, a stunning prima ballerina, feels trapped by her family's expectations and overshadowed by her twin brother's success and political goals.
They dance around societal expectations and political rivalries, their secret romance ignites, echoing the intensity of Shakespeare's star-crossed lovers. In this modern retelling of classic romance meets dance drama, Max and Mia face the ultimate challenge: fighting for their love amidst the chaos of political intrigue and societal expectations. Can they defy the odds and find their happily ever after, or will their love story become just another casualty of their divided worlds?

A Ballet for the People is part of the Love on the Ballot series. This is a multi-author series with each book being able to be enjoyed in any order or as a standalone. What a fun read this was! In a time when political tensions have been so high, this series has been a nice escape from the real-world politics, taking us into a world where there may be some drama... but it'll all end in a happily ever after. This story drew me in right away with Max's failed attempts of finding a date to events. I couldn't help but laugh at his poor luck! And then he meets Mia, sparks fly, and it seems like things have turned around... until he discovers that her brother is his political opponent! This story definitely had a bit of a Romeo and Juliet vibes to it... but with politics and a much better ending, of course! I loved the chemistry these two had... they complemented each other so very well. And a breakdancing senator... how fun is that? While the story was overall pretty lighthearted, there were definitely some tougher moments too with how Mia's family treated her. This is the first book that I had read from Lillian Joubert, but it certainly has me looking forward to more!
A Ballet for the People is a closed-door romance with kisses only.
