Have Yourself a Married Little Christmas by Claire Cain: Book Review

**ARC received for consideration. All opinions are my own.

The Book

My cheery little life was chugging along smoothly until one small shift sent it off track until it imploded. I lost my health, my business plans, and even my apartment—Merry Christmas to me! It’s at this low point Colonel Gruff, a man I know dislikes me, finds me.

He’s the grumpy soldier with a personality like sandpaper, but suddenly he’s offering me a solution to my problems I can’t say no to, and in a matter of weeks, I’m Mrs. Colonel Gruff.

I’m giving him what he needs too—a wife for the holidays. We’ll play pretend for his family, and even though he hasn’t said why, I know convincing them is important. And though this is all part of the agreement, those sugar plum fairies dancing around in my chest every time he gets close aren’t part of the deal.

I’m not ready to give up mistletoe kisses with my fake husband, or this glimpse of his secret soft side. But we’re only married for the holidays. I can’t keep him—even if he’s all I want for Christmas.

Have Yourself a Married Little Christmas is a closed door romance without implied intimacy.

The Author

Claire Cain lives to eat and drink her way around the globe with her traveling soldier and three kids, but is perhaps even happier hunkered down at home in a pair of sweatpants and slippers using any free moment she has to read and cook. Or talk—she really likes to talk. She has become an expert at packing too many dishes in too few cabinets and making houses into homes from Utah to Germany and many places in between. She’s a proud Army wife and is frankly just really happy to be here.

Book Review

Have Yourself a Married Little Christmas is the second book in the Married to the Military Romances series. I had not personally read the previous book and found this one was able to be enjoyed just fine as a standalone.

I always love a good military romance... and when you also add in Christmas and a marriage of convenience? Yes, please! Gruff certainly lived up to his name on the surface... but when he finds Andy upset over health issues that she can't afford to take care of, he's quick to jump to her rescue. She needs good health insurance; he needs to not be alone for his family's holiday gathering. A marriage of convenience seems like the perfect solution for them both. Andy is just the burst of sunshine he needs for him to let down that gruff exterior and I loved seeing his softer side come out throughout the story. While this chemistry is undeniable from the start, this was definitely a slow burn and made the wait all the more worth it. Throw in some chat threads with meddling moms and there was so much to love in this cute holiday romance!

Have Yourself a Married Little Christmas is a closed-door romance with kisses only. There is a bit of minor language as well.
