From Chaos to Calm: A Shepherd’s Journey Through Modern Storms
It was a Tuesday morning when my world seemed to collapse. The incessant buzz of notifications, the weight of impending deadlines, and the echoes of global crises all merged into a deafening symphony of anxiety. As a pastor and global missionary, I was expected to be a pillar of peace for others. Yet, I found myself engulfed in a sea of overwhelm, struggling to breathe.
Sound familiar?
This scene plays out in countless lives daily in our hyper-connected, always-on world. We’re all searching for an anchor in the storm, a moment of respite from the relentless pace of modern life. It was in my moment of desperation that I rediscovered an ancient wellspring of peace: Psalm 23.
”The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures…”
These words, penned by David, shepherd-turned-king, thousands of years ago began to work their way into the cracks of my fractured spirit. As I meditated on this psalm day after day, I realized it wasn’t just a poetic artifact—it was a roadmap for navigating the complexities of our 21st-century existence.
This personal transformation became the seed for ”The Way of The Shepherd.” In writing this book, I set out on a quest to unpack how this timeless wisdom speaks directly to our most pressing contemporary challenges:
- Finding Peace in a World of Conflict:
Conflict seems unavoidable, from my experience of stress anxiety to the global tensions that flood our newsfeeds. But through the lens of the Good Shepherd, I discovered a peace that transcends circumstances—a calm place in the eye of the storm.
- Discovering Purpose in an Age of Distraction:
How do we discern our true calling with a thousand voices vying for our attention? The shepherd’s guidance offers a clarity I never thought possible, helping me navigate the noise and stay true to my life’s purpose.
- Achieving Wholeness in a Culture of Fragmentation:
Juggling roles as a pastor, writer, global missionary, and family member often left me feeling scattered. The shepherd’s path led me to a deep sense of wholeness, where every aspect of life finds its proper place.
- Embracing Rest in a 24/7 World:
Proper rest can seem like an unattainable luxury in a society that never sleeps. Yet, as I learned to “lie down in green pastures,” I found a rejuvenation beyond mere physical relaxation.
- Seeking Guidance in Uncertain Times:
When the future seems more unpredictable than ever, where do we turn? The shepherd’s staff became my compass, offering direction when the path ahead was unclear.
The Way of The Shepherd offers practical solutions to finding peace through personal stories, actionable advice, and deep scriptural contemplation.
As we journey through The Way of The Shepherd together, you’ll discover:
- How to cultivate a strong inner peace, regardless of external chaos
- Practical steps to align your life with God’s purpose, even when the world pulls you in a thousand directions
- Ways to foster genuine reconciliation in your relationships, healing the divisions that plague our society
- Techniques to find proper rest and recharge, even in your busiest seasons
Whether you’re feeling lost in life’s shadows or simply seeking richer pastures, this journey offers more than temporary relief—it provides a proven path to lasting peace and purpose.
Are you ready to exchange anxiety for assurance, chaos for calm, and confusion for clarity?
Let’s rediscover The Shepherd’s path to peace together. After all, who wouldn’t benefit from some peace in a world that often feels like a raging storm?
Welcome to the journey. The still waters await.

Author Interview
Can you tell us a little bit about what readers can expect from your books?
My books focus on Christian living and helping readers grow deeper in their relationship with Christ. Rather than heavy-handed sermons, I strive to provide practical, accessible guidance for applying biblical wisdom to modern challenges. In "The Way of the Shepherd," readers can expect to find a roadmap from anxiety to peace through the wisdom of Psalm 23. My writing aims to meet people where they are and offer biblical solutions to real-life challenges we all face.
What is the greatest advice you have ever been given about writing?
Just write! The most valuable lesson I've learned is about consistency and getting words on the page. I used to be too obsessive over the first draft, spending too much time self-editing instead of just writing. Now, I focus on dedicated writing sprints during my 90-minute morning routine, knowing you can't edit a blank page.
What book made you fall in love with reading?
While I can't point to a specific first book, my journey with reading began remarkably early. My mother, who couldn't read herself, bought "Hooked on Phonics" with vinyl records and made me listen. By age two, I was reading simple books like "Fun with Dick and Jane," and by kindergarten, I was reading at a fifth-grade level. The most beautiful part was that my mother taught herself to read through this process, too.
Can you share 5 random facts about this book?
- It was written while serving as a global missionary in Uganda
- The inspiration came from witnessing anxiety becoming an epidemic in both Western and African contexts
- I wrote it during consistent 90-minute morning writing sessions
- The book combines insights from 30+ years of ministry across three continents
- It was written alongside another project - a textbook for nearly 400 Bible colleges across sub-Saharan Africa
What was the inspiration behind it?
After more than thirty years in ministry across the USA, South Africa, and East Africa, I've witnessed people everywhere desperately searching for peace in increasingly chaotic times. Seeing anxiety become almost epidemic in our world, whether teaching at Christian institutions or working with church planters, I encountered many who knew about God's peace but struggled to experience it. Psalm 23's beautiful picture of complete trust in God's care inspired me to help others unlock that power in their lives.
What was the most challenging part of bringing this book to life?
The Lord always encourages me to navigate the challenges I write about. This way, I can provide genuine options to help others through their own struggles. While writing this book on peace, my wife and I went through a difficult season in our ministry work in East Africa. We faced one test after another, but we rediscovered Psalm 23 and started to find new paths to peace.
What was the most rewarding?
The most rewarding aspect of writing "The Way of the Shepherd" has been witnessing how challenges can lead to a path of hope. As I explored the theme of finding peace in life's storms, I experienced deeper levels of God's guidance in my own life. Sitting on my porch in Uganda and watching the sunrise every morning reminded me of God's faithfulness as I reflected on His care. There, in prayer, I worked through a lot of difficulties, stealing my peace and causing conflict within our work.
What do you hope readers will take away from the book?
I hope readers will take away a sense of hope and the unshakable conviction that true, lasting peace is within their grasp. By unpacking the insight of Psalm 23, I want to equip readers with practical, Scripture-based strategies to surrender their lives to the leading of the Good Shepherd. More than just an abstract concept, I want them to experience the life-changing reality that peace can reign, even in life's most incredible storms.
