Synopsis: In a crumbling Soviet Union, the Petrosyan family are outcasts—wherever they go. Armenian heritage marks them for discrimination both at home in Azerbaijan and in Russia. Based on a riveting true story of faith and hope set amidst great oppression … in the shadow of exile, hope became their home.




Before watching this movie, I can't say that I knew a lot about Armenia and/or Russia and the discrimination that would have been faced there, so I really wasn't sure what to expect from this movie at all. What I discovered is that this was a beautiful story of a family who faced great oppression... and still managed to find their faith in the midst of it. It was an emotional story and definitely one that had me reaching for the tissues a few times, but one that certainly leaves you feeling more hopeful in the end. It was especially beautiful knowing that this was based on a true story. While this is a faith-based movie and one that is free of language and such, it does have some violence and the subject matter in general in likely not one that would be of interest to younger audiences. It would be appropriate for older children and teens and could be a great discussion starter too.
